Chapter 18
The ceremony was spectacular. A lot of people came to witness Rosita marry Ryan – who better take care of her, even if he is her twin-soul. Rosita wore a slim, floor-length dress that was coated in lace with tiny diamonds. Aura and I wore short, turquoise bridesmaid dresses with matching heels.
Aura and Taran were finding comfort in each other as they did not have the privilege of a twin-soul nor did they have the discipline to not act out of character even though they are hurting. They became close friends and they talked, dance and laughed together the rest of the night. Ace had dragged me outside to the steps for some fresh air. We sat on the wall that was next to the steps and I took off my heels – my feet were killing me after standing in them all day.
‘I never told you,’ Ace said as he sobered up from all the laughing, ‘thanks to you, my grades have gotten better and I got the second best grade in our English class, the best was only two marks higher.’
‘Really,’ my eyebrows shot up, ‘well done. Who got the highest?’ I asked. Instead of an answer, Ace just smiled at me like “shouldn’t it be obvious?” ‘I got the highest grade in the class?’
‘Yes... and you beat me by two marks.’ Ace joined me with my laughter from the way he had sulkily spoken.
‘So Mr American Bad-boy,’ I called him what I had on the first day I met him, ‘tell me, did I over complicate things by falling for you?’ I recalled his words that he had told me.
Ace seemed to catch on since he said, ‘yes, you did... but in the best way possible... I never actually asked you if you’d want to date me, you know.’
‘Well, would you mind going out with someone who has a massive secret?’ I asked, teasingly. That’s the thing about me:
I have a secret.
‘Dating an angel, hmm... That sounds heavenly.’ Ace made me laugh again with his play on words.
A terrifying but absolutely wonderful, magical secret and that’s why it’s a secret. No one believes in magic anymore. I’m not talking about kid’s birthday tricks, I mean real magic. The kind that can take your breath away, or knock all of the wind out of you, or sweep you off your feet – both literally and metaphorically. I am an Angel.
