A/N
This is mostly going to be in Ruby's (the main character that y'know isn't matt) POV but I may switch it up.
Also I hope you guys enjoy this story, I haven't written in a while but I'll try my hardest to make it good. Alright here we goFebruary 29, 2016
7:00 amI am awoken by my alarm. My first thought in the morning is, 'shit. It's Monday'. I press snooze and fall back down into my warm white sheets.
This means I have to get up, get ready, and go to work. Three things I never want to do, ever.
I look around my room. I see my old photo of my best friend, Signe and I, had fallen off of my wall again. I sigh.
But, the colour of my walls, a bright blue, helps me wake up a bit. My blinds are closed, but still let enough sun in for me to see clearly to not have to turn my lights on.
I decide to check my phone, because it's basically my top priority every morning.
signe 😜: 'Hey, you up yet?'
I laugh at this one. 6:30 am when she texted me that.
'of course i wasn't awake!
do you even know me?!'I get dressed into typical everyday clothes. Since I live in LA, I don't have to get too covered up in the winter, so obviously I go for ripped skinny jeans.
Signe lives in Ireland with her boyfriend Sean. Or better known as Jacksepticeye off of YouTube. She always complains about how Jack is constantly yelling at video games, but she knows she couldn't live without it.
Me on the other hand, I'm still single. Signe keeps trying to hook me up with Sean's friend Mark, but I could never see it working out. It feels like she's my mom and I'm in an arranged marriage.
She made me visit him and his friends, Ryan and Matt this weekend. I had to FaceTime her the entire time.
I liked them all, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather spend some time to myself before I spend it with guys and form relationships.
I started getting ready. Ate breakfast, put on makeup (easier said than done), brushed my hair, brushed my teeth, put everything I needed in my bag, and I was off to my boring job.
I finished getting ready early today, so I decided to walk to work instead of getting a cab. I lived in a quiet place in LA (yes, those do exist) so it was quite peaceful. I lived in a normal sized house surrounded by other normal sized houses. But, I didn't talk to my neighbors much. My neighbors on each side are just normal families, 2 or 3 kids and happily married parents. But I live all by myself.
But I'm okay with that, once again. That means I can do whatever I want without being judged. Wanna learn an entire G-Easy song? Go ahead, me. Wanna go to McDonalds at 5 am for pancakes? Sounds delicious! Wanna take artsy photos of literally anything? Yes, bitch. Post that shit on Twitter.
The breeze blew through my hair and the sun was about half-way to the top of the sky. Clouds would show up every now and then, but never lasted long. I occasionally crossed a few people, looked into a few shops, and internally freaked out about a cute dog.
Then, I thought I heard my name. But, Ruby is kind of a common name. Could be talking to someone else.
But no one else was responding to it. My heart stopped for a second as I looked around.
It was... Ryan?
No, Matt. I always get them mixed up.
He stepped closer to me. "Your name is Ruby, right?" He said, a small sense of nervousness and awkwardness in his voice.
"Yeah, that's me. Hey, Matt." I smiled. I liked Matt. He was funny and pathetic, but in a cute and charming way.
"Hey! So, where are you headed?" He said cheerfully. He was awfully cheery. Maybe he doesn't go out often.
I accidentally let out a laugh at the thought. "Oh, I'm just going to work."
"What's so funny?" Matt asked, sarcastically.
"Nothing, you just seem really happy." I remarked.
"Well, yeah... I don't have a job I have to go to every morning. I'm Mark's editor. And I'm just happy to see 'ya."
"Your Mark's editor? No wonder his videos are so bad." I teased.
He fake-cried and I laughed. He laughed with me. I liked his smile. It seemed genuine. Like he was genuinely happy all the time.
"So, since you asked me, where are you headed to?" I asked.
"Well, we need some milk!" Matt mocked the beloved meme and clapped his hands together.
"Good one! Haha!" I said, pointing finger-guns at him and pretending to shoot.
I realized how close I actually live to Matt, Ryan and Mark. Only 2 or 3 blocks away.
"So, what time do you have to be at work?" Matt asked me.
"9:00. I still have some time to spare, I think." I replied, checking my phone.
8:35 AM
jackaboy: 'Signe woke me up super early because you wouldn't text her back. Thanks a lot, dickbag!!!'
signe 😜: 'well, I accidentally woke up early and I couldn't go back to sleep'I texted back:
jackaboy: 'sorry boo. you think i can keep a conversation going at 6 in the morning? my brain is not functional at such time.'
signe 😜: 'sorry about that!! love u'"What time is it?" Matt asked. I just realized how silent it got. I feel bad for him.
I panicked a bit, not knowing if I should give the exact time or a roundabout.
"Uh, about 8:35."
"Cool? How far is your work from here?"
"A few blocks."
"Ah, man! The store is right there!" He pointed to a convenience store up ahead, about 3 buildings away. "That means you're gonna have to be lonely again." He sighed. I could tell he felt bad. Why did he care so much?
"It's fine, Matt. I'm fine with being alone."
Matt just looked at me for a second, and nodded. "You sure?"
"Uh, yeah."
