A place where people only want a son or two may be. Because desires don't die. Because when the first one kicks them out, atleast their ll be an option.
Although, being a girl with no brother, never realized that reality is not what I see. When my sister was born, my family welcomed her with a party and people asked "again a girl" then why this celebration? And slowly the question was changed to "why don't you have a son?"
And there I realized, it was something great to be a boy.
I got to know that being a girl here means you are and always ll be someone's something. Your name is not your identity but, just a tag. At times, it becomes really difficult for me to understand that being a female, how a mother gets sad when she gives birth to a girl.
What actually prompted me to write this was yesterday's incident. I went for a marriage function, where there was a ritual that the newlywed bride ll hold a baby boy, so that she gives birth to a baby boy in coming future and what made me laugh was that her mother in law searched for a boy for around 20 minutes and in front of her was standing her own grand daughter.
Her innocent eyes met mine and my heart exclaimed, welcome to India, baby!
