An alarm clock burst to life, filling noise in the entire room. Amy and Matthew flutter their eyes open and look around. Matthew sighs with big relief. "Hey...did you have bad dreams too little bird?" Matthew asked in a concerning matter. Amy didn't really how to dream in this form. Or if she could even dream at all. When she was a human, she used to dream about many things, unicorns, monsters, princesses, thought of this started to make Amy cry. The bird looked down on the ground, not moving at all.

"My parents said to me yesterday that there was a project going on. The...'Metamorphosis Project?' I'm scared little bird. I think about it every day...when I'm going to become a victim." The bird looked up when he said those sentences. He knew! "What is it? What's wrong?" Matthew said pulling his head from the ground. The Raven jumped up and down. "Wait...were you a human?" Matthew asked as shivers went down his spine. Amy nodded. "Oh no! It...it already had its first subject! Come little bird, we need to go!" Matthew grabbed the bird and started to open the window. When he was almost out, the door suddenly opened revealing his mother.

"Matthew! What are you doing?!" His mother said as she tried to get Matthew back in his room. Matthew tried his best to avoid the hands of his superior, but it was useless. She pulled him out and his back thumped on the ground.

"Why are you going through the window?!" His mother yelled. "Mom! This bird said it was the first subject of the Metamorphosis project!" Matthew responded with a serious tone. "We got to get out of here or we will turn into animals too!" "Now Matthew, that's silly. The project would've never happen here-" As soon as his mother finished her sentence, the door knocked down, and face planted to the ground. Two gnarly men snickered and grabbed Matthew's mother, yanking her away from her son.

"MOM! NO!" His mother soon was taken away, screaming in terror. Another man, much slimmer this time, tried to grab Matthew. Matthew kicked the man in the faces causing him to cuss. The boy managed to get away as he ran as fast as he could to the forest. The man snickered. "Eh. Who cares about him anyway. We just need the parents for our experiment." He said while cracking his knuckles. Walking away, he joined the other two men. Crayons were sprawled on the floor and the crayon picture of a bird still hung near his bed.

Matthew huffed, getting tired from running. His feet were getting blistered and red, cuts stretching from the heel to the top. He finally collapsed on the ground, as the bird fell a few inches from him. Amy was horrified. His parents were taken away... She pecked Matthew a few times and chirped. Matthew, still frowning, laid in his side.

"What am I going to do now? My parents are gone, and..." Matthew stopped to cry a bit. Amy cuddled near Matthew and he soon found himself happy again.

"At least your still with me." Matthew said to himself as he pet the bird. He got up and looked up at the tree. He started to climb the tree, his hands getting bruised from the texture of the wood. Eventually, he got high enough and on a big wide branch that was easy to lay on. Amy tried to jump up to a branch, but it was too high. She looked at herself, and flapped her wings. Slowly but surely, she gained altitude, running into the branches once in a while. Amy landed near Matthew, as she sat down.

The night waned on as the moon rose. Matthew and Amy close their eyes, feeling the euphoria of sleep.

"Hey little bird, did you have a family? A family that loved you?" Matthew asked as his eyes still were shut. Amy pecked him, as a sign of saying yes.

"I think they still love you Amy. I think they even miss you. We're going to find them again." Matthew responded.

The two slept through the night, as the moon shined bright.
