Don woke up and heard Luna say something. He opened his door and looked at her. She was by the phone.
"What did you say Luna?" he asked. Luna told him everything that she'd learned from her call.
"What? Really? No, she can't be lying to us... we haven't done anything to her!" Don protested when Luna told him that Sabrina may be lying to them.
"Why not? We never did anything to anyone at school!" Luna argued. She felt on the verge of tears. They'd never argued before, not until now. What did it mean? Were they slowly growing apart from each other?
"Luna, that's true, but really, she's been so nice to us, and..." Don trailed off, trying to think of something else to say. While he did, Luna put a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry I argued," Luna apologized.
"It's alright Luna. Just tell me everything that happened when you were talking to Sabrina, please," Don said, and Luna took a breath in and told him.
"Well think Luna, how could Sabrina have anything to do with our phone problem? She couldn't have done anything to mess anything up, I mean seriously, this is the government. Unless she's highly skilled in wiring and such, there's no way she could've done this," Don pointed out. Luna nodded her head, and decided that Don's words were true.
"So, um, yeah. Isn't there a number in this book for some official people? We can ask them why we can still call people. Let's look in the numbers book," Don suggested. Luna however was deep in thought.
"Luna?"
Luna looked at Don. He could tell there was something still bugging her about Sabrina and the phone.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Why would Sabrina's phone be like ours? Why is it still activated?" Luna replied, and Don had no answer. Finally he said, "Luna, let's just call those officials really quick and we can ask them." They picked up the binder and read through it, and finally found the number they were looking for. Luna picked up the phone, but she heard a voice coming from it. She put it to her ear and listened.
"Phones are currently blocked, no calls may go through at this time," the official, female sounding voice said, and repeated it over and over again until Luna put the phone back.
"Why didn't you dial the number Luna?" Don asked.
"Our phone is deactivated now," she replied, and Don looked confused.
"Our phone is deactivated! It won't work," Luna said. "Why is it deactivated now? Did the government forget to deactivate it or something?"
"They aren't that careless..." Don said.
"Let's just get to bed, okay? I don't want to deal with this right this second," Luna suggested, and Don nodded. They turned out the lights and went into their rooms, but they never did fall asleep.
