The quick steps of bare feet hitting hard wooden floor, and the yell reminiscent of an air horn was what had awoken the young male adult up the next morning.
Dipper begrudgingly opened his chocolaty eyes and looked up at a face similar to his own right above him. He blinked, then his eyes widened before replying.
"Mabel?! What are you doing in my room? I thought you where with your girlfriend?"
"Psh, we aren't girlfriends, just friends...who like to cuddle... and kiss. Maybe we are? I- wait this isn't why I'm here. Gruncle Stan wants us downstairs for breakfast, not that we're gonna eat it. Also your room stinks, bro, clean it up, will you?"
He blinked again, "Yeah Yeah, I'm coming. Just let me get dressed, and my room is perfectly fine."
Dipper waited until his sister left to crawl out from under the warmth of his covers. He sluggishly walked to his closet and pulled out a pair of jeans and a black shirt, pulling his cap on as well.
Checking that everything was set for the day, he quickly opened his door and jogged down both sets of stairs into the dining room.
On the table was a stack of...pancakes? He wasn't sure, not with all the hair and burnt parts on them. His sister sat in a stool by the table, happily chatting away with Gruncle Stan.
He was quickly noticed by his eccentric twin.
"Ah, there you are. So, I was thinking about helping you with finding a job? Wadda' ya say?" She asked.
She had been like this recently. A lot. Being much more serious than the Mable pines he was used to, and kept trying to get him to get some fancy job. He understood that he was old enough to have his own house and job, but he was also just fine running the Mystery Shack while his uncle's where on vacation.
"Mable...you really don't have to. I can manage fine on my own, besides I've gotta run the Shack while everyone is gone, so I get plenty of money."
Her smile fell slightly and she started to speak before Stan interrupted. "Son, the kid is right, as much pride as i get with you wanting to manage the old place, you're gonna need a more stable job. You're getting a little old for myth huntin', kid. That kinda stuff gets you no where in life."
Dipper bit his lip, an aching in his chest. He knew they were right, but it did hurt to hear. He swallowed and quickly nodded.
"Glad we are clear, now come over here and eat some of these damn pancakes."

Dipper walked around the store, helping out anyone who needed it. It had been a long afternoon. After his talk with Mable and Stan, he found himself alone again when Mable left for work, and his Gruncle left with his brother to go on another trip.
He glanced at his watch and say it was time to close up shop.
"Alright everyone, it's closing time! Thank you for coming, I'll see you all tomorrow!" He shouted and waited until everyone left to lock the door and lay his head down on the table.A noise from behind him brought him back so reality. He sucked in a breath, slowly turning around in his seat. Brown, almost black, eyes widened comically.
"Hello, Pinetree~" A high pitched voice Purred darkly.
Mwahahaha, I think I'll just leave it on that note. Make sure to comment and like this story, it may not seem like much, but it means a lot! See you guys in the next chapter, my smol children!
