Time it took us, to where the water was

I met him on a sunny afternoon by the river that ran through the meadow. I couldn't tell you which river it was or where the meadow was, I couldn't even tell you his name.

He was different, I could tell from the first moment I saw him. His hair was the color of a Raven's wing and his eyes were like the sky on a cold, clear day. He was wearing a long, light blue overcoat that fell about his knees. Under the jacket he was shirtless revealing skin smooth and pale, like the moon. He wore dirty tan pants that were shredded at about mid-calf and his feet were bare.

He gestured for me to come to him  and so I did. He sat on the muddy banks of the river and I sat next to him. We didn't talk, we never talked, we didn't need to.

That's what the water gave me

After some measure of time spent sitting on the bank he got up. I stayed seated, watching him with curious eyes. He stood in the crystalline water that danced about his ankles, swirling and gliding effortlessly. The part of the river he stood in was narrow and shallow, but further up stream it widened and grew deeper.

The river bed was made of rocks, shiny, wet, and smooth, worn down by the years of living beneath a cascade of liquid glass. He bent down, reaching beneath the bubbles, and picked up a particularly pretty, blue rock. He turned back to the bank, stepping into the mud where his feet squished. He lowered his hand offering me the rock, which I accepted gratefully.

And time goes quicker, between the two of us

He sat back down next to me without a word. I looked at the stone in my hands, running my finger across the wet, lustrous surface. It was much more beautiful up close. The river-blue stone was flecked with darker hues of blue and gold that glinted in light.

An immeasurable amount of time passed. The sun gave no sign of time gone or not yet gone. It sat unmoving from it's place in the middle of the sky. Watching us like a parent might watch it's child.

And all this time, whatever amount it may have been, we didn't talk, but we didn't need to talk to understand. He knew he was mine like I knew that I was his. That's all that mattered.

Oh my love don't forsake me, take what the water gave me.
