So lay me down, let the only sound be the overflow
I don't know how long it had been since I had last been to the river in the meadow. It could have been a few hours, a couple of minuets, a few weeks, ten years, a millenia. I didn't know and I didn't care. When I entered the meadow for the second time in my life, he was there, lying in the wild grasses that were so tall I could hardly see him. He sensed that I was there and sat upright and motioned for me to come over.
I walked through the wild-swaying grasses and sat next to him. We lay down close together, our bodies never touched but the heat radiating between us was palpable. We watched the clouds, fat and white, floating lazily in the deep blue of the sky.
We heard nothing except the tinkling of the river water. The sound was calming, soothing. I closed my eyes and let it's sound cascade into my ears. I focused on nothing but the sound and I let my breathing fall steadily.
Pockets full of stones
I was so intently listening to the sounds of the water that I didn't hear him get up. When I opened my eyes he was standing above me, his hands were full of dripping wet rocks, that twinkled like diamonds in the sun. I stood up slowly, my eyes never leaving the stones in his hands. Some of them were small, others quite large. They were all different colors, some pink, others blue. He motioned to me. I cupped my hands while he extended his letting the rocks fall gently from my hands to his.
I smiled at him, silently thanking him for the gift. He nodded and smiled back lightly. Just the smallest smile lit his entire face up. His eyes became brighter than they ever had, shinning brilliantly like the wet jewels I held in my hands.
So lay me down, let the only sound be the overflow.
We laid back down, continuing to gaze at the sky above us. The puffy, jolly clouds that once occupied the sky were replaced by mean, grey ones. I closed my eyes once again and let the sounds of the river take over my senses.
