"Kate!"
I heard my mom yell as she called me. She was already outside the grocery store with my dad and my older sister and they were unloading the push cast and transferring the goodies at our car's trunk.
"Kate!" she again called, signalling me to hurry.
"Mom, wait..." I answered as my gaze shifted on the rack of movies being sold at a certain part of the store.
"Okay, we will wait for you here, honey," she said as I made my way at the entrance, quickly heading back to check the movies they are selling.
A familiar DVD series of my favorite cartoon show caught my attention. Casper the Friendly Ghost. I smiled. I knew that I had to buy this. As I pulled out the item, I checked my pocket for my wallet when in an instant, someone caught my attention.
Someone.
A guy stood next to me. He was tall, and I felt very little as he stood right beside me checking the rack of movies as well. He slightly bumped me, maybe not noticing my presence. My lips formed in a frown.
His fingers ran on the pile of DVDs. He was wearing a rainbow wristband, with a black letter Y imprint on it. He stopped and pulled the 'Three Idiots' movie. His lips arched on a smile as the checked again what's still more on the rack.
I gazed at him, the way a little girl would stare at a certain stranger. He was Asian, maybe Japanese or Korean. But I guess he was a Korean based on the characters I can see on his black sling bag he was carrying. It spelled something unknown to me, then under it was the words ABC Detective Agency. He was wearing a black shirt and a cargo six-pocket pants, and combats boots. Is he from military or from a special secret defense agent like what his bag says? I was trying to peep to see if he was carrying a gun on one of those pockets.
"Good stuffs are all here," he grinned pulling a 'Big Bang Theory' DVD series. No wonder that this guy is handsome. He sported the usual layered hair of a typical Korean pop idol complete with the messy hairdo and fringes, plus it was dyed red. He got those thick glasses, magnifying his sleepy eyes. There was an earphone stuck on his right ear where a small silver stud piercing was visible. Listening to music perhaps? But why is there only one piece of the earphone? I tried to find where the connection leads to but it goes inside his shirt. A walkie-talkie gadget thing for agents maybe?
I find this guy interesting. Seriously.
He moved inches towards me, bumping me again. This time, it was harder than the first.
"Excuse me?" I said in a loud voice as the stranger faced me.
"Yes?" he said in a gentle voice, smiling at me.
I held the Casper DVD on my hand tightly as I looked straight at him. My heart was beating fast.
You know the feeling of being nervous and excited, yet being overjoyed and satisfied at the same time? I felt it. I felt it while I was looking at this guy.
There was something in him that I cannot comprehend, but I really felt that I know him. Like I had met him before. Like I had been with him.
Like he was my older brother.
My older passed away. I had never known him since I was little. The only thing that I remembered was my Mom convincing me that he was Casper the Friendly Ghost, because they share the same name, so I watched the entire series thinking it was him. I grew to love that show, being attached to the memory of my brother. My brother who I really wanted to know but I unfortunately, he was gone before I met him.
When I saw this guy, something leap from my heart. I felt a certain longing buried deep in my chest for the person that I wanted to be with. My brother.
