As Serena and Ethan walked through the door of their house (yes, they live together in their dad's house) it took their dad literally 0.3 seconds to explode on them.
"Serena! Ethan! What the hell happened down at the paper?!" Their dad, Chris, who was somewhere in his mid 50's with grey hair that sometimes looked a bit brownish, came storming into the living room.
"Hey dad. It's fine, just another one of those stupid pranks," Serena said as she shot Ethan a look. She didn't need him voicing his worries to their father.
Hopefully he got the 'talk and you'll be dead by morning' message.
Add innocent halo emoji here, please.
"Another prank, Serena? There was a break in at your office."
She shrugged, "So? Remember when some kids broke in here one day just to throw flour everywhere?"
Ethan chuckled, "Yeah, and it was a bitch to clean up."
His eyes narrowed as he directed his gaze at her brother.
She shot Ethan another death look before he cleared his throat and pulled at the collar of his shirt, obviously uncomfortable with being in the middle of the situation.
"She's right, dad. It was just a breaking and entering situation. We've got guys down there now looking for any indication as to who it was that broke in," he sent her a look, almost as if asking her approval.
Their dad sighed as he ran his fingers through his bed head, a trait that Ethan had picked up early on.
"Fine, I'll believe you this time," dad looked directly at Serena, "Dinner's in the fridge, just heat it up," and with that, he walked away.
Ethan and Serena both let out relieved sighs as she raced to the kitchen for her meal. She hadn't realized how hungry she had been until she smelled the food through the microwave.
Serena took the food to her room so that she could eat while finishing the murder story. She was dead set on finishing this story before tomorrow.
No pun intended.
After camping out in her room for a good half hour, she started getting double vision. She had to blink a few times to get rid of the crossed eyes that she had from staring at the computer for so long.
She didn't realize until morning that she had fallen asleep at her desk.
