"I don't."

My heart pulsed as he slowly raised the gun to his head. The room was filled with nothing but silence.

Dead silence.

My thoughts swam with every idea on how this situation can end.

"I will do it Melissa! I swear I will pull this trigger if you don't tell me that this was all a mistake right now!" Jake yells with a mixture of anger and terror in his voice.

My vision starts to become blurry as a mixture of tears and sweat slide down my face. More tears begin to build up in my eyes as I glance towards the man I love laying lifeless on the floor. I honestly start to wonder if what happens next even matters anymore.

"Melissa..." Jake starts to walk towards me with the gun still aimed at his head.

"I know you still love me. I know this was all a mistake. So just tell me, tell me you love me so that we can leave and forget any of this ever happened." He whispers in a tender voice.

"I...I..." My voice shakes as I attempt to utter the words that I don't mean.

I always used to believe that cheating never solved anything. I still believe it doesn't, considering the situation that I am currently in.

But when your boyfriend becomes abusive and dominant, you tend to want to seek comfort in something or someone. That someone was my best friend of seventeen years.

Asher.

I've always loved Asher. Since the age of eight, I imagined him as my boyfriend, husband, soul mate. But life got in the way and priorities drew us apart.

But after Jake did something I will never forgive, I came to Ash for comfort. First in the form of words, then lips, then bodies.

How Jake found us, I will never know.

Jake looks straight into my teary eyes with his bloodshot ones.

"Just say it. I'm giving you one last chance baby. "

I stay quiet.

"Say it!" Jake yells with rage. The gun still pointed at his head.

"...I don't. I don't love you." I stand there, ready for whatever is to come.

Jake becomes still and time freezes.

I close my eyes and Asher's face is the only thing I see as I hear...
