Waking up in this ratty studio is definitely something I have to get used to.
Gathering the few things I had, I rushed towards the door and made my way to the sidewalk. Looking down at my shoes, I groaned. I definitely needed to get them replaced.
Shaking my head, I continue my mission of looking for any building with a reliable working pay phone. I mean who actually still uses those when everyone has a cell phone? This really sucks.
Finally, after walking a couple blocks closer to the city, I see a pay phone near the 7-Eleven and hastily search my pockets for any coins I could use to make a call. I pull out the few coins and make my way towards the phone. Quickly, I push the familiar phone number and wait while it dials.
"Hello?" I hold my breath, figuring out what to say. What could I possibly say? Few seconds pass by as I realize that this pay phone might be able to be tracked.
"Just know I'm safe. I can only talk for a few seconds more, I'll figure everything out. Stay safe." I sigh, as I hear the muffled voice start to say something. I end the call without hearing what the voice says knowing I've wasted too much time.
Shoving my hand into my right side pocket, I pull out the familiar wallet and open to look for any cash I could use. Taking out the crisp hundreds, I look around to make sure no one is watching me hold so much money.
This poor guy is certainly going to miss his wallet. Oh sure, I know stealing is bad, but can you blame me? This is a necessity.
I rush towards the closest bus stop and sit down. I take out the wallet again looking through its contents. ID, a few memorable pictures that guy is never going to see again, and credit cards. I go through the pictures and frown. Seeing the toothy grin of a five-year-old girl staring back at me, makes me feel more guilt that I had taken this. I hear a rush of wheels and the headlights of the oncoming bus blind me momentarily before I stand up.
I take out a few dollar bills before putting the wallet back in my pocket. The bus stops in front of me, the doors opening, allowing me to climb up to grab my ticket. I insert the money into the slot and pull out the ticket. I walk towards the back of the bus and decide to sit far away from people and their curious glances. Come on you guys, it's not like you haven't seen a person take the bus at 7 in the morning. I look down at myself and realize they're staring at my appearance. A tattered shirt and a week old pair of knee high shorts.
Watching through the windows, all the cars zipping by, the numerous people just passing through made everything so surreal and calm. I sighed. I at least should give myself the opportunity to finish something before I do what I have to do.
My first goal should be to finish my senior year. So let's focus on that, shall we? I run my hands through my hair to snap myself out of my exhausted mind. Looking out through the window again, I see a shopping center. I pull the cord to get off and wait for the bus to stop.
I make my way to the shopping center and focus on the task at hand.
I need to make a first impression on the classmates I'll see for about 4 months. Just try to blend in. It shouldn't be so hard right?
I look through a rack of clothes, specifically the clearance section. Come on, I have a few hundreds, a girl has got to think thrifty.
Pulling out a couple of skinny jeans that hopefully fit, and simple tees, I rush to the fitting room to try them on.
Walking over to the fitting rooms, I pass by one of the workers as she's checking the customers amount of clothes to make sure she's not taking anything. It sure seemed like she was having a hard time with the lady.
