"THE HOPES LONG SINCE TRUE."
"200"our english teacher asked us all today-and as i, and every other student in class realised, you especially, since your answers are something out of a poetry book-what the difference between pretty and beautiful is, and of course, your hand shot up instantaneously - confident and sure. after the teacher was done suppressing his excitement to hear your answer, and trying to give other children, who were - much like me - still trying to understand the question itself, he smiled at you to give you passage into your own castle. "beauty," you began, in your clarion voice, spoken to be heard, it's appeal unhindered by your cough and cold, "is merely in reference to a person's physical appeal, whereas a beautiful person is pleasing more to the soul than to the eyes; a beautiful person may also be pretty, and a pretty person may also be beautiful; the only difference being that make up can make a person pretty, but not beautiful. beauty," you stopped for effect, eyes glistening behind those just long enough to be pretty, but not too long eyelashes, and a dazzling smile showcasing your rounded teeth, "comes from within." everybody sat still, still over coming the daze that follows after listening to you speak, and the teacher, the first to recover, clapped his hands and with an uncontrollable smile, appreciated your answer, and asked you a question just as you sat gracefully back, "what do you think you are, dear?" and without hesitation, you replied as if being asked about what you had for breakfast, "If I'm pretty or not, is for others to determine; but i surely hope i can be beautiful someday." to which the teacher laughed nervously, and said, "you are pretty, my dear, there is no doubt." and as you shrugged nonchalantly, not caring enough about being pretty as much as i know you'd like to be beautiful; i bent my head, and couldn't stop the smile that fought the edges of my lips to break routine and bend upwards, as i seem to do very often when I'm around you.
You obviously don't know, but you've always been as beautiful, if not more, than you are pretty.
