I want to say that the next day I wasn't waiting around for him to call.But then around noon my phone rang, and he said he wanted coffee. I couldn't resist, I almost mumbled my reply as he was talking.
I locked the door behind me, digging for my car keys. On the way out I glanced across the hall to where the neighbor eyes me curiously. Arron often charmed her, and she disliked me because she thought I faked the bruises for attention.
Her dark eyes traced my outline with disgust, and she disappeared into her door. Sighing, I climbed in my car and sped to the café.
When I arrived I had to fix my appearance in my rearview mirror, but soon I was sitting down with coffee in hand.
His smile was as white as a sheet as we talked, laughed and drank together.
