Prologue:
The cold winter wind hit against my face as I ran to school. I really didn’t want to be late again and get another detention. Although I do have art first today and Mrs. Holland could never give me a detention. She loves me too much to ever do that. I ran faster once I heard the bell go off inside of the school. I raced inside and ran into my art class in record time. I have got to start going to bed earlier and stop staying up late sketching, painting and drawing. Sometimes I just get so lost in a picture I just can’t help but stay up until three in the morning finishing it.
I yanked Mrs. Holland’s classroom door open and made my way to my seat in the far back right corner of the art “studio” as Mrs. Holland liked to call it. I called it home. I pulled out a drawing I’ve leisurely been working on. The rest of the class was already at work on their current project the one I finished and turned in months ago. I stared down at the painting flat on my desk and tried to figure out what it needed next. It still didn’t look complete. I stood up from my seat and walked over to some supplies on the other side of the room. I love using these art supplies more than any others because they’re next to her desk. I took my time picking out which of the erasers and pieces of charcoal I needed while looking over my shoulder and stealing glances at her.
She is so pretty and amazing and perfect. Too bad she doesn’t even know who I am. I glanced down at her painting and cringed. Man, she was dreadful at art. I know she was only taking this class because it’s required in order to graduate while I’ve already taken this class multiple times for my own enjoyment. I take one last glance at her small figure and the gorgeous back of her head. My lip piercing poked into my upper lip hard as I smiled. I hid it of course I covered my face with art supplies while I smiled and made my way back to my seat. I couldn’t let anybody know that I felt emotion especially emotion towards… her.
I looked down again at my unfinished masterpiece and decided to shade it in more. Making the girls features darker and a bit more defined. I begin on shading the background behind her before I started on her. And then before I knew it the bell rang and it was time to move on to the next class. Great, it happened again I got lost in a picture and spaced out and lost all sense of time. I sighed and picked up all of my belongings to move on to my next class. I placed one of the many pictures I’ve created of her in between the pages of one of my notebooks and headed off for my next class. I think its history but I don’t really know, I never know where it is I’m meant to be. I wave to Mrs. Holland as I exit her classroom.
Cautiously, I take a step out into the busy halls of the school. I start making my way to my locker since I really shouldn’t be carrying around a picture I’ve made of her all day that could be really bad if someone saw it or stole it or god forbid told her I draw pictures of her. Well, really it’s her fault if she wasn’t so gorgeous and lovely to draw then maybe I wouldn’t draw her as much as I did. I took another sigh of relief and then darted to my locker which was right in my view.
A small little body pops out of nowhere and collides right into my chest making the both of us fall right to our feet and all of our belongings to fall all around us. Great. Wonderful. Just what I was trying to avoid… an event that would draw attention to myself. Can’t I just have one day where something humiliating just doesn’t happen. Please?
I sigh and start to pick up my notebooks and folders. A small hand reaches for my sketch of her that must have fallen out of my notebook when I fell to the floor. The little hand pulls the picture closer to her body trying to get better lighting so she can see if the drawing is exactly what she thinks it is. I hesitate but look up… and I can’t believe it, she’s kneeling in front of me holding my art work in her tiny little hands. The girl that I have been in love with and observed from afar for years is in front of me and she’s holding my artwork. My artwork of her… this can’t be good. She’s probably terrified right now. I scare everybody.
Her POV:
"Is-Is that me?" I asked the boy with piercings all over his face and tattoos winding up both of his arms and neck.
"I-It depends..." He says.
“On what?” I ask.
“On i-if I sc-scare you or n-not.”
I shook my head. “You don’t.”
And the mysterious boy in front of me grinned, carving two deep dimples into each of his pale cheeks.
“Yeah. Th-that’s you.” He stuttered. I lifted the sketch higher and closer to the light above us observing it intently.
I smiled. It was beautiful. This random boy made me look beautiful. But, why was he wasting time drawing me? A stranger.
