This is a short story inspired by 'The A Team' by Ed Sheeran.

The night sky looked absolutely beautiful. I watched it from where I lay in an empty field. The cool, early summer breeze nipped at my skin, but the air was warm. Thousands of stars shone and twinkled brightly, dancing in patterns labeled as constellations. The clouds had been swept away, leaving me a clear, uninterrupted view. Words spiraled through my mind and I smiled as I let my imagination run through the atmosphere to join in the shining merriment.
The silence was interrupted by the sound of light footsteps against the grass, causing me to turn and stare at the beautiful figure who had created the noise. Her hair shone in the dim light, and it swayed back and forth in a gentle rhythm. She joined me on the ground, and together we fell against the grass to gaze upwards until dawn.

I didn't see her again for a long time after that night. I heard her voice occasionally over the phone, or stared at her words as they appeared on the screen of my computer. We talked endlessly. She was going to school for art, myself for theater. We spoke of classes. Traveling was mentioned more than once, but plane tickets were very expensive.

I lay in that field once again with the stars above me. The peace that had overwhelmed me before was gone. My heart ached for a certain person who rested thousands of miles away. I half expected her to appear, but no one came. So I gazed upward on my own. A streak of silver light soared across the navy, like a brush stroke on a dark canvas. I closed my eyes. I wished that she and I would be okay, no matter what happened, no matter what path we took.

I believe we are still okay.
