I drove into the school parking lot focusing on the Tuesday school day. It was only the first day of school and still there was something really exciting that would be happening today, I could feel it, but I couldn't figure it out.
Then, suddenly a Saturn pulled into the parking spot beside my Ford. Two people climbed out of the car, one a big, buff guy with wide green eyes. And the other was a smaller boy still pretty muscular but he had bright blue eyes.
That they were vampires was obvious. With my advanced hearing, I could hear no heartbeat. And their deadly white, beautiful, pale faces were a giveaway.
They came to walk by my side, smiling.
"Hi, I'm Alex." I smiled politely.
The more masculine one spoke first. "I'm Jared. This is my brother Jer."
"Hello," Jer said. His voice was glorious.
We then began walking towards the high school doors.
"So when did you guys get here?" I wondered.
"We got here on Saturday from Canada."
"Yeah, I live here alone, for now anyway. I've been here for about a year and a half. I used to live down in Georgia."
"Oh, nice."
"Yeah."
We kept walking together quietly, slowly to the doors of the high school. I sometimes felt his eyes wander to my face, looking at me intently. I didn't look back at him, afraid of the common awkward moment.
When we reached the commons by the lockers, I turned to say good-bye to him.
"Well, I'll see you at lunch," I said, looking down at his feet slightly. I didn't notice that he had the kind of shoes that a billionaire would have.
There were really nice black shoes-I wasn't an expert at shoes-so I couldn't tell the brand. But they were definitely expensive.
"My friends and I sit on the third table from the right, by the window. You should sit by us." I grinned, happy at the thought.
"Ok, see you then." He smiled his wide smile again.
I turned away from him to go to my locker and grab my stuff for my first class. We already got our books from orientation last night.
I quickly did the combination for my locker. I easily remembered it from studying the numbers over and over again last night. I already had my schedule memorized, too.
Jenn seen me by my locker at that moment and quickly veered her course towards my locker.
She leaned casually against the locker next to mine. "So," she said, looking a little upset. "You've met the new guy."
"Yeah," I said, a smile spreading on my face. "You don't miss anything do you?"
"Not really," Jenn said with a sly grin on her face. "So is he gorgeous or what!?"
I laughed. That was so Jenn. She would always notice the guys for their hotness, not their personalities.
"Yeah, I guess," I said, not really knowing what to say.
Not even my friends knew my vampire secret. They would probably freak. But I'm sure all of them probably figured there was something different about me.
Like how I was only sixteen and I live alone. How I am abnormally graceful, beautiful, and I never seem to age, or look any different.
Someone was bound to notice something wrong with me sometime. I probably need to start thinking of an excuse for me not aging. I don't really want to move because I have everything set up here. Friends, school, everything.
"He seems really nice, though," I said, trying to make her see that there's more to him. "And guess what?" I tried really hard to look enthusiastic about it.
"What!?"
"I convinced him to sit by us today," I said, just a little smug. I knew she would go crazy, but it still made me jump when she screamed.
"Eek! I have to tell Emily and Ashley and Nat and Sarah and Em! Aagh! They'll be soo excited!" She was still screaming when she ran off to find the rest of our friends.
"A little eccentric, isn't she?" A voice sounded behind me.
I jumped and quickly turned around to see Jorden yanking open his locker.
Jorden Schmidt had always had a locker by mine-and Jenn has always had a huge crush on him.
His wonderful, green eyes poured down into mine. I sighed silently in my head.
"Yeah," I agreed. "That's Jenn."
"Still kind of cute, though." He said.
I dropped my jaw. This was not like Jorden. He usually ignored almost every girl except his girlfriend, Jamie. She gets just a little pissed at him. But of course Jamie wasn't here.
He smiled at my expression and walked away.
My jaw was still dropped as I walked down the halls to Mrs. Serrano's Spanish class. I quickly snapped it shut as I noticed people staring at me.
I got to Mrs. Serranno's room and took a seat.
The rest of the day-up until lunch-went like a normal first day of school. New teachers, introductions, stuff like that. But then at lunch, the day suddenly got really, really exciting.
I sat down at our normal lunch table and waited to see --.
He walked in the cafeteria with a grin on his face, immediately searching for me, I'm guessing. He saw me and started to walk towards my table.
He sat down and all of my friends stop talking. They gawked at him like he was a super-expensive piece of jewelry.
I decided to introduce him before they got any worse. "You guys, this is Jer."
They still didn't stop staring at him.
"You guys," I said in a loud whisper. "Stop staring."
They finally snapped out of it. Emily, Ashley, and Nat all suddenly started talking at the same time, sneaking glances at him.
I could hear what they were talking about with my advanced hearing, despite their hushed whispers.
Of course, they were talking about the new guy.
"How did she get him to sit by us?" Nat said, overly surprised.
"I have no idea," Emily whispered. "But look at how gorgeous he is. And do you know what's weird? Jer and Alex are the exact pale shade!"
"Oh my god! They are!"
Oh, crap. That's probably not good.
I listened closer for more information.
But then they switched subjects; going on about Jer's amazingly gorgeous face besides the similarities between us. That was close.
