Reader POV
A quick and soft rapping at your door cuts its way through your slumber.
"Miss (f/n)? Are you awake?"
It's Oletta. You give a groan in response, while you end up sounding like a rhino giving birth to triplets.
"Miss (f/n), please. It's already late morning. You really shouldn't sleep the day away like this. . ."
Her voice trails off, a bit uneasy.
"Miss (f/n) please."
You sigh and roll around in the covers. Honestly, the world could come swallow up your entire being right now and you wouldn't even object. Why can't Oletta just let you stay in bed? It's not like you have anything important to do today. . . But, unfortunately, your sympathy gets the better of you and you decide to open the door.
The blankets form a large hooded cape around you as you shuffle over and slowly pull the door open. You hide behind your makeshift curtain as you do so. Oletta peers in and sees you wrapped up like a little grub; her eyes turn even softer than they had been.
"Oh, you poor thing." She frowns knowingly and carefully steps inside. Her dress swishes around the door frame as she turns to you. "I suppose I didn't expect you to have fully recovered from last night. . ."
She closes the door and guides you to the bed, sitting lightly on the edge. "Come, sit."
You gradually waddle over with your blanket cocoon and plop down haphazardly onto the bed. Oletta places her hand gingerly on your shoulder.
"I am so terribly sorry for what happened last night. Your father truly didn't mean to cause such a ruckus, and. . ." She trails off, seeming to not know where she was going with this. "Oh, dear, he's so very sorry."
"Good. He should be," you retort.
"Ms. (f/n), please. He thinks he's lost you again--" her voice sounds more pleading--"Well, not physically, but emotionally. And he treasures you very much, more than anything."
"Then he'd treasure my beliefs too."
"He does, my dear, I promise you that. But he's also obligated to rule Alternia with the utmost efficiency. . .and although that means oppressing us lowbloods, I suppose that that's what works." She gives a painful sigh. "It sounds awful, I know. . ."
"It is awful! That's why it has to be fixed!" You suddenly jump up in the heat of your emotions. "No society should thrive off the oppression of others! It's just wrong and cruel."
"No, I suppose it shouldn't, but that's simply wishful thinking."
"Wishful thinking, my ass. . ." you mutter with a snort.
Oletta pauses with a solemn expression and takes a deep breath. "Your father requested that I ask you to meet with him today. He wishes to talk."
"I have nothing to say to him." You look defiant.
"Ms. (f/n), please."
"I will not."
"Please, Ms. (f/n), go, if only just to say that you have nothing to say,--" her voice suddenly quiets with urgency-- "or it will be my head."
It hits you with a sudden pang of fear and rage; your face sets in blank compliance. "How dare he. . ."
You take a sharp inhale.
"Okay, fine. I'll go," you say with a hint of angered agreement. You shed your blanket cocoon and walk towards the door. As you begin to open it you turn to face Oletta. "But make no mistake that I'll raise hell in there."
