Chapter Three

Zayn's P.O.V

It was like all the air in the room wasn't enough for me to breathe. I lost my appetite and the lasagna in my mouth just felt bland.

Why did he have to do this.

I looked up at him trying to give him a questioning look which I'm pretty sure turned out as a look that was pleading for mercy.

"Look son, I know you're not interested in any kind of these things, I mean you're twenty one, have a bachelors degree in business but you work at a local diner."

Ha. Asshole.

"But that isn't the point of this conversation. What I'm about to offer you might make you change your mind."
I just stared at him with a blank look on my face.

He took it as a hint for him to carry on.

"I've started a hotel business, in Manhattan."

How many businesses did this guy have?

"Its a new business as you must've guessed", he continued with a short pause, "and I want you to fly there and, well, take care of it."

Wait. He wants me to go to New York?

"Look I know its a whole lot of burden on you but I have to stay here and see that the business runs smoothly and I want you to do the same when you go there."

This was like the biggest plot twist ever. Whatever job he ever suggested to me was always in his own own company, in London. This was a change. And maybe, just maybe I should consider it.

After what felt like forever I finally replied, "I'll think about it."

His jaw almost dropped and looked like my mother was about to spit out the food which we chewed in her mouth. Izzy simply looked at me with wide and shocked eyes from across the table and Emma was too busy digging in her plate.

Their faces were so priceless if I didn't have a shit ton of thoughts on my head I'd actually burst out into a fit of laughter.

After a moment or two, Mr.Owen spoke up.

"Really?"

It was almost as if he didn't believe me.

"Yes, really", I replied in a calm tone.

He looked content, happy almost with my answer.

"I will wait for your decision, Zayn."

I simply gave him a small smile and continued to eat my meal which felt like it lasted forever.

After dinner my mum offered me dessert but I politely declined. We had just sat down in the living room when I decided that this home isn't the very best place to think.

"I have to leave", I said in a low but audible voice.

"Isn't it too soon?", my mom spoke up with a dismayed expression on her face.

"Uh, I have a shift tomorrow and the ride back home is quite long so, yeah", I said as I shifted on my feet.

"Oh", she stated in a blank tone. "Well, visit again soon", the smile was back on her face.

"Yeah, I will."

I said my goodbyes to everyone else and made my way to the hall which led to the doorway. My mum still walked behind me as I opened the door and stepped out the warm atmosphere.
