Everything after that was a blur. The police came, social workers came, and ambulances came. My brain couldn’t understand what was going on, I hadn’t even taken in what had just happened to my family. There were officers everywhere, some bombarding me all these questions that I didn't have the answers to. Looking around I couldn’t recognise anyone other than Nate’s mum, who was explaining worriedly to one of the officers, unlike the old lady from down the street; who was speaking animatedly to one of the officers who was scribbling hurriedly in his note pad.

After what seemed like hours a woman with silk red hair helped me up led me towards a blue car. I didn’t pull away, I had felt soo alone, everyone just wanting information from me, I couldn’t resist the warm grip on my hand as she led me out of my home.

We sat in sad silence as she drove down the deserted road. It was nearing midnight, and I was exhausted. Sleep sounded amazing, I wanted to wake up and discover this was all a dream, I didn’t want to face the reality of it.

I looked out of the tinted window, and realized I didn’t know where we were, or where we were going. I had nowhere to go, no family left. I held back the tears, as I turned in my seat.

“Where are we going… who are you?” I asked, although I ready knew the answer to the latter.

“We are on our way to a foster family who will look after you for a few days. And I'm Amy, your social worker… I’m here to help” She said, looking directly at me, even though she was meant to be watching the empty road. I nodded not returning the pitiful smile she was giving me.

After half an hour of silence we stopped in front of a blue house in a town I'd never heard of. The front garden was full of flowers, mainly white and red roses. We walked up the front steps, but before Amy could ring the doorbell a motherly woman opened the door. She was in her late forties, or early fifties with greying hair and a slightly over weight figure. She smiled warmly at me, and ushered us both in.

"Hello Amy... who have you brought here today"? The woman asks, as I shuffle behind Amy. "Ohh, it's ok to be shy darling... do you want tea? Coffee?"

It was late, I didn't feel like coffee, but I didn't feel like objecting either. I slowly nodded and looked at the peach wall papered  hallway, which was covered in pictures of a blond haird girl, the woman, and an old balding man.

Amy turned around, and bent down so we were at eye level. "You are going to be alright staying with Mrs Shelly, she's been looking after children for years…she will keep you safe" Amy murmured to me. I shook my head, dreading what the answer to my question was going to be.

"Where is my sister" I ask, not able to fit dad, and Nan into my sentence as my voice choked up.

“Oh darling… don’t cry, come here”, She said, engulfing me in a hug. Tears still spilled out of my eyes, as I sobed uncontrollablely, unable to stop myself. “It’s going to be all right, we are going to find them. It's going to be all right”.

It wasn’t.
