Tommy Lord Jr. Named after his father was eight years old when his father died. He honored his father and wanted to be like him because even though they were poor his father supported the family. His father had no education and no job but he was skilled in other areas. He'd work on cars or fix the plumbing in someone's house to get paid. Unfortunately Tommy Sr. died leaving the family nothing.
Tommy Jr. Wanted to do some great things with his life but there was only one problem, he and his mom Anna was still broke; so broke Tommy had no clothes. Everything Tommy owned was to small for him.
After his father died Anna couldn't buy food or pay rent and was later evicted.
Anna tried to raise Tommy the best way she could so she gathered up the coins she had saved and moved to Chicago Illinois to have a fresh start. She and Tommy lived in a shelter for several months before she found a cheap two bedroom apartment.
Anna moved to the worst neighborhood.
Tommy feared his life because he saw drugs being sold on the corner and a lot of gang violence.
Regardless of what the neighborhood had to offer Anna tried to stay focus and do better.
Anna applied for a part-time job at a local grocery store but still it wasn't enough to pay rent so she bartended at a night club to make up the difference.
Tommy, ten years old in a new environment and a new school was being bullied almost everyday.
"I hate this place", Tommy would often tell his mother who couldn't do anything about it. Although Tommy maintain good grades in School it didn't matter because children teased him about that too.
"Look at the nerd, he's a smart bum, look at the holes in his shoes, ooh he's just nasty, go wash your butt" they'd say.
On Tommy twelfth birthday Anna decided that life couldn't get any better when she lost her job at the grocery store. They lost everything once again and went back to a shelter.
This shelter was poorly managed. The floors was nasty, the walls that were once white was dark from dirt stains. It looked like someone took a knife and start peeling the paint off the walls. To Tommy It felt like living in an abandon house.
"How can we go from bad to worst?" Tommy thought.
One summer morning Anna went on a job interview. She kissed Tommy forehead and said "I'll never give up on us" and departed from the shelter. Tommy watched the doors close behind his mom and suddenly became sick. He went into the room to lie on the bed he and his mom shared.
"Something is so wrong! He thought.
He could hear noises in the hallway, a few seconds later
he heard the door crack open and it was April.
April was a young adult in her early 20's who was raped when she was a child and has also been accused of doing the same thing that was done to her.
