It was my turn to freeze. How...How did he know?
I could simply nod, his eyes seemed to be filled with concern as they looked at me. "That bastard. Couldn't keep his hands clean for once, could he?"
I shifted to a much comfortable sitting position, crossing my legs in a criss-cross formation. I kept my head down, though, letting my eyes move around while he spoke. "Do you even know him?" I asked.
Lifting my head a little, he nodded. And just until now I notice my hot chocolate wasn't hot anymore. What a shame. "Know him? I guess you could say that." He shrugged, taking a sip from his mug. It's a small world, isn't it?
"Do you mind telling me? A story can really help me forget everything that's happening." I ask Mathis while placing my mug on the nearby table, no longer interested in the hot chocolate.
He clears his throat and looks hesitant, but starts talking anyways. "Leo and I go way back actually. My father was his father's assistant so he was always at their home and I always used to follow him. Our parents were pretty wealthy so we had all the toys to play with that other kids our age would kill for. We were oblivious to the problems around us, until we got a little bit older."
Mathis stops talking as he places his mug next to mine and leans further into his couch getting comfortable.
"Leo's mother was a beautiful, seemingly loyal and caring woman, but behind closed doors she was the opposite of that. She always ignored Leo, and spent most of the time with another man. Her husband was so absorbed in his work, he didn't pay her much attention, so he didn't have a clue about this.
We were about 10 at that time and we kinda knew something was off with the way his mother always used to get dressed and leave the whole day, so we once followed her and found her with that man. Leo was torn. He did what anybody would do; he told his father. He followed her once and found them together, and he killed them in the spot." He stops, almost trailing off as he remembered, or so it seemed.
"H-he killed them? And you both were there?" I ask him, still shocked.
"I waited in the car and just heard the bullets, but Leo did. He witnessed his mother getting killed by his own father. Kinda explains why he's so messed up, huh?" Mathis scoots closer to me and puts one hand on my leg. "He didn't hurt you, did he?"
The feeling of his hand on my skin sent shivers down my spine, I thought his touch would be cold, like Leo's...but it was actually warm. I shook my head, actually feeling a bit comfortable here with him. "No, it's just that..." I didn't want to think about it any longer, I can't believe I slept with a murderer, what if I get involved with his problems in the future? When he gets caught, what will I have to say?
Mathis leaned closer to me, his hot breath touching my neck and cheek; it felt welcoming. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I just....want to make sure he doesn't break another heart." I felt my cheeks get hot, I bet I looked red. But then again, how could I not?
Before I knew it, his lips were against my own, a hand placed on my back. I didn't know what to do, but the kiss was so gentle, nothing rough or forced...Mathis broke the kiss, opening his eyes and suddenly getting a mildly shocked look on his face. "I-I'm sorry, I should've...I shouldn't have." His expression softened as he began to get further away from me, but I didn't want to let that happen.
Tugging the front of his shirt, I pulled him towards me, lips touching once more. Feeling him kiss back almost right after made me smile, for once. I felt him melt into the kiss as he leaned in towards me, almost on top of me. He licked my bottom lip, making me open a small gap between my lips as he then slid his tongue in, exploring my mouth. As he then retreated and broke the kiss, he brought his lips against my neck, nibbling and licking, trying to find that sweet spot.
I whimpered softly, signaling to him that he's found it. Smirking, Mathis kept planting small butterfly kisses along my skin.
For what seemed like minutes, felt like forever. I felt cherished, cared for..
loved.
As he broke the kiss once more, he looked at me in the eyes, a visible blush covering his cheeks.
"I think...I think I'm in love with you already."
