Chapter 2 - Departure

In the Ootori household...

"Kyoya, you know that your studies should be your main priority. As the youngest, you should know how much we are expecting from you," Kyoya's father said as Kyoya stood in front of his desk in his office.

"But father, Miyuki was having a bad day. She was crying."

"I understand, but I notice that she is becoming a distraction to you."

Kyoya looked down without responding.

His father continued, "I know that Miyuki is a bright girl that is an honor student just like you, but you can't let her problems become your problems. Remember, you are to be an honorable son to the Ootori name. You cannot forget what your true goal is."

Kyoya clenched his fists, "Understood, father."

"Good. Then, I suggest that you avoid her and continue to focus at school for your sake and for hers."

He hesitated but then he responded, "Yes, father."

After that day...

I saw Kyoya leave his house and wait for the van to pick him up and go to school. As I walked out of my house, about to walk to school, I waved at him with a smile, "KYOYA!!! Have a good day at school!!!"

He did not respond as he avoided my gaze.

I lowered my arm, "Kyoya?"

My mom placed a hand on my shoulder with a smile, "Don't worry about him, I'm sure he'll be fine. Now come on," she took my hand, "You're going to be late for school."

"O-Okay...", I looked back as I noticed that he had a distant look on his face, "Bye, Kyo--"

The black van covered my view from him as I stopped talking and turned away with sadness and confusion.

Days passed by and Kyoya never said a word to me. He never he stopped by at the park any more.

This was when I chose to go to his house and ask for him.

When I rang the bell at the gate in front of his house, I would hear a voice and it would be the voice of his father.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"U-Um...this is Miyuki Sachiko. Is Kyoya there?"

From inside the house, his father looked at him studying in the living room.

He responded, "Ah, Miyuki..I'm afraid he is busy right now."

Kyoya heard the sound of name and stopped what he was doing to look at his father, "Miyuki?"

"Oh really? Then, can I see him tomorrow?"

"I'm afraid that won't work either. He has been busy with schoolwork that he doesn't have any time to take a break any more."

Kyoya stood from the couch, "Father!"

"R-Really?"

"Yes, I'm sorry, Miyuki, but he needs time to himself. He cannot play with you anymore."

My eyes shot up as he spoke again, "I apologize. Good day, Miyuki."

He hung up as I backed away, tears forming at the ends of my eyes as I ran to the side and entered my house, running up the stairs to my room.

In the Ootori household...

Kyoya ran to his father, "Why did you do that?"

His father had a stern look on his face, "Kyoya, it is for your own good. You are an Ootori and you must follow my instructions. Is that understood?"
