Geez, it’s raining again. I checked the alarm clock on my bedside table—3:07 A.M. Like seriously?! Is this the part when someone’s going to grab my foot and lead me to the basement and I’ll be exorcised and then live happily ever after? Okay, that was overrated. Too much horror movies I guess. I can hear the heavy drops of rain hitting the window pane of my room. Aaaahh! A loud crack of thunder seemed to awaken my senses and…whoa! Wait, what was that? I think I just saw a white figure passed by one of the windows. And to think I’m on the second floor of our two-storey house. Could it be...? I slowly turned my head towards that direction with only one eye open. I made a mental note to myself not to patronize horror movies anymore. And then I saw it. My curtain. Wait, how come one of my windows is open? Then there it is again: another crack of lightning. With my senses fully awake, I didn’t fail to notice that there formed a strange silhouette. Without thinking, I approached the window in attempt to close it when I smelled the sharp, metallic odor of blood. The lightning struck again and the sudden rush of wind blew the curtain, revealing my beloved bestfriend hanging by the window.

“Aaaaaahhh!” I screamed in horror, awakening everyone in the house. There was a loud banging on the door and I heard someone calling my name but was muffled with my horrified screams. Then, all of a sudden, my door jolted open and I rushed to my mother and hugged her like my life depended on it. Dad switched on the lights and a gasp escaped from his mouth. I felt my mom stiffen. I knew immediately that what I saw a while back wasn’t just a figment of my imagination. What was more horrifying was that when I turned to look again, I saw Patch’s mutilated body hanging by the window. Her belly was ripped open and there oozing with blood were her internal organs.

I tossed myself around my parents’ bed for the nth time. I willed myself to sleep last night despite of the gruesome scene in my bedroom window. “Last night was just a nightmare” is my mantra. But I know it’s not. I saw her, eyes wide open, and tongue stuck out and…and…Oh God! The scene was just terrifying. So much for watching Saw. Who could have done such a thing? No one was holding a grudge against Patch or me. Not that I know of.

It was a bright sunny morning. I can hear the birds chirping, somewhat finding food for their young. When I got out of the room, I had a glimpse of my room but I don’t have the nerve to even go near.

“Good morning, dear” Mom said in her usual cheery self. I just nod in response, not really seeing anything good in the morning.
