"Samuel?"
A girl with sad, tired brown eyes looks up at a boy with vibrant greens. Their eyes meet and the boy's face breaks out into a smile, his already bright green eyes lighting up further with the sheer joy the girl sitting next to him brings.
"Yes, Claire?"
He reaches up a hand and gently, with all the care in the world, moves a strand of hair out of the face of the girl, tucking it behind her ear. His warm, calloused hand lingers on her cheek, stroking her soft skin. She leans her face into his palm, her eyes closing gently as a small sigh leaves her lips. Her heart beats loudly in her ears, bursting with the feelings she has for the boy.
"Samuel... Do you – do you love me?"
The smile on his face widens, revealing a dimple on his chin right next to his lip. His thumb moves gently across the cheek of the girl as he brings his other hand up and softly cradles her face between his palms, handling her with care as if she was made of glass – glass that could break at any moment.
"Yes sweetheart, I love you."
The girl opens her eyes in wonder, blinking away tears before the boy could take note in the dim lighting. Her sad brown eyes meet his vibrant greens and she sees the sincerity held within his gaze.
"Why do you love me?"
The boy leans forward and places a kiss on the girl's forehead, his lips lingering for a moment longer than necessary. Then he leans back and caresses her face one last time before drops his hands back into his lap, a lazy smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
"Because, you're Claire."
The girl furrows her brow in frustration, not hearing the answer she wanted. Her lower lip juts out unintentionally, her face pulled down in a pout that the boy thinks is absolutely adorable – although he would never admit it.
"Okay, but why? I'm nothing special. I'm probably the dullest person in the world."
The girl lowers her eyes, staring down at the bed and avoiding the ardent gaze the boy is suddenly giving her. The smile falls from the face of the boy, his heart beginning to thump loudly in his chest. He places a finger beneath her chin, lifting her face until she had no choice but to look at him.
"Claire, sweetheart, stop."
He leans forward and kisses the girl on her forehead once more, then kisses the tip of her nose, making a giggle rise up from her chest. Then his lips are on her lips, slowly at first, but then more urgently. Their lips are moving in sync in a dance as old as time, tongues fighting for dominance, teeth gently tugging at lips. Her arms fly up to wrap around his neck, her fingers twisting into his hair, pulling him closer. One of his arms wraps around her waist possessively, his hand lifting her shirt ever so slightly, his fingers tracing delicate patterns on the sliver of skin revealed. The other hand gets tangled up in the hair at the nape of her neck, gripping it tightly and bringing her closer to him. The pair kiss for seconds, minutes, hours – time has no meaning when one is in love. They finally release, each gasping for breath. Then the boy is talking, his voice filled with passion and heat, his eyes burning with the need for the girl to know he is speaking the truth.
