I walked quickly behind Rosa Armstrong. She was only a few inches taller than me but it felt like she towered over me. She walked with her head high. I had never seen her walk like a soldier before. I couldn't care for her army-etiquette. I only cared that she arrived home in one piece.
"So.... this is going to be a weird first date," I broke the awkward, yet sweet silence.
"Excuse me?" She sounded offended.
"Excuse you? Excuse me!,"
"What... okay now I'm just confused," She stopped for a second and continued walking. God this palace was long.
"What is confusing in this situation?" However, I did not follow her. It was my turn to be offended.
"You! What do you mean "first date"?" She stopped again and turned around to face me.
"What do you mean, "what do you mean"?"
"Okay. See this is what is confusing me," Shocked and bewildered, I felt myself grow weaker and my voice fainter.
"I thought, I thought we were together?"
"Excuse me?"
"We literally made out yesterday! Don't make me explain what we did last Friday,"
"Oh right,"
And she continued walking. And so did I. It seemed that she had brushed off the entire situation, along with out entire relationship. As I walked with my head down I felt something yank me into a storage closet.
"What are you doing?!" I cried out only to find a hand, her hand cover my mouth.
"You know my father doesn't know!"
"Doesn't know what?"
"Oh my god for a scientist you are so stupid,"
"Hey!" But I couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Luna, he doesn't know about us. Or me,"
"Well it's not exactly a same-sex relationship now is it?"
"You know what he is like! I promise after the mission I'll take you out for coffee!"
I nodded. Unsure what to do next. Her left arm was still holding mine and pushing me against the closet wall. Her other hand was flat on the closer wall next to my face.
"So what now? We're in a metaphorical closet and a literal one,"
She stared at me with her soft, brown eyes. And then she reached forward and kissed me. She quickly let me go and we continued walking to the army base, or whatever they like to call it.
For once in my life, I managed to fit in. Rugged soldiers with scars and stubble. Men, women and everyone that was or wasn't, filled the room. Many practiced and trained, others chatted and laughed, many played cards and a few were talking through video chat to their families or loved ones. A few turned to salute Rosa, and she saluted them back. She brought me into another room. This room was empty. There were a few punching bags, a mat to fight on and a few fake weapons on the far wall. I was made take off my shoes, belt, and piercings.
"Okay Starshine, get ready for a week full of training,"
I looked up to see a fist reach for my face. I quickly dodged and I found myself behind her. In one quick movement, I kicked the back of her knee and wrapped my arm around her neck. Loose enough that it wouldn't hurt her, but tight enough that she would be forced to struggle to escape.
"Okay Flower, you wanna try that again?" I said with a smirk. But my cockiness was met with a sharp pain in my ribs. She stood on my foot, which thankfully didn't hurt. She turned around and pushed me back. I fell to the floor.
