Mathangi smiled as she peeked on stage at the audience. She wasn't nervous. Talking in front of people and expressing her opinions was something she became immune to. Actually, she was excited. Today, she would be setting the record straight on everything; her album, marriage and recent trailer leaked about her documentary.
"And now please welcome rapper M.I.A aka Mathangi Arulpagasm to the stage" she heard Jimmy Kimmel's voice through the speakers.
She smiled at the crowd waving and sat down in the chair next to Jimmy.
"By the way, I hope I pronounced your name right "Jimmy said smirking.
"It's Mathangi, Arul-pra-gasm" Mathangi said.
Jimmy Kimmel gave her a confused chuckled and She laughed.
"Don't worry, you'll get it soon" She said.
"Yeah hopefully" He mumbled.
"So there's talk that you actually have an album coming out soon" He said.
"Yep next Tuesday. It's called Mathangi." She said, a hint of pride in her voice.
"That's great! I really like your song "Paper Planes" by the way." He said and everyone chuckled.
"Can you like sing it for me." He asked.
"I fly like paper get high like planes" She sang whilst laughing as Jimmy bobbed his head and started making gun signs.
"That's tight rapping. Your are really good. But lately you've been dealing with a lot of controversy about your songs. " Jimmy said.
"To be honest, it's just me expressing my self. When people make comments about my song I just laugh at it. What I write in my songs is stuff I witnessed since I was little. And no-one hardly ever talks about stuff that goes on in the Middle East countries like Sri Lankan so I express it in my music." Maya explained.
"How does it feel to be the first Sri Lankan female rapper?" Jimmy asked.
"It feels good. I feel like I am speaking out for the people who are afraid to. Sometimes it's like being a state representative. You know? I get to speak up for many people. I thought the best way to do that was through music. So I took a shot at it and look where I am now. I just do it to get my point across and say what I have to say" Maya explained.
"Speaking of that, yesterday I watched this trailer for an M.I.A documentary. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one dying to know when it's coming?" Jimmy said.
"I haven't really been working on my document. I've been focusing more on my album and traveling alot. But it should be out soon" Maya said smiling.
"Ok so there have been some rumors going around" Jimmy said but she cut him off.
"Yes I'm aware of that and yes they are true" she said shaking her head.
Jimmy looked shocked at her. She smiled.
You are really married to Eminem? Jimmy asked in disbelief. Maya showed him the ring and he sat in shock.
"You know he's actually here" Jimmy said.
"Are you serious?" Maya asked laughing.
"Yes" Jimmy said. "Everyone please welcome to the show, Eminem"
Marshall walked out on stage smiling and waving at the crowd before joining me and Jimmy.
"Ughh what are you doing here. Don't I already have to put up with your shit at home?" Maya joked laughing.
"That's exactly why I came to fuck up your interview." Marshall joked back.
"Yeah you two sound like a married couple. Is this how you guys normally talk to each other?" Jimmy asked snickering.
"Pretty much" we both said chuckling.
"Wow. I can't believe it. Two very talented rappers. From different worlds. That's pretty cool. When did you guys meet?" Jimmy asked.
"We met in 2004" Marshall answered.
"Oh so you've know each other for a long time" Jimmy asked.
"Yes. Eight years" Maya answered.
"I'm really curious to know how you two met" Jimmy said and the crowd went crazy.
"It's a long story." Maya said chuckling.
"We have an hour of the show" Jimmy said.
I looked over at Marshall and he nodded his head. The crowd started yelling "tell us" "tell us" "tell us". I began to smile at their excitement. When I started to speak the whole crowd went silent.
"So it all started in 2004" I said as all the memories came back to me.
