Meeting him wasn't on my agenda for that day. Actually it pretty much screwed up everything for the rest of the year. When I met Oliver James I fell, literally I tripped over what seemed to be nothing more than air and dust that was scattered over the disgusting hallways of the public high school and fell at the feet of high school royalty to have everyone laugh at me.
Oliver didn't laugh though, he helped me up and walked to me to class, "that was quite a wipeout, can I ask your name or should I just call you wipeout?" I almost didn't respond, mostly out of fear but he didn't laugh at me then so why would he laugh about something like a name.
"Myra Jones" I look up at him to see him smiling.
"See that's much prettier than wipeout, I'll see you around Myra" he spoke with such ease then turned on his heel and walk off with his football friends. That was the only time we talked but for the remainder of the year we exchanged smiles and then he was gone. Full scholarship to some school up in New York and he was never coming back. Not for me, definitely not for me.
So I finished high school with big dreams of becoming an editor or publisher. I got into NYU with a full scholarship on their writing and publishing program and maintain a 3.8 GPA. Now I'm going onto my senior year at NYU and I just started an internship at one of the biggest and best publishing companies in the state, HarperCollins Publishers.
I'm not doing this because some petty high school boy that I had a crush on didn't like me back, I'm doing this because this was the plan all along, not so fierce and head-on but I let a boy stand in my way and I got hurt when he left and that won't happen again. Myra Jones doesn't need anybody or anything to make her happy. This is what makes me happy and so I'm pursuing my dream.
I want this more than any thing and I won't let anything stand in the way this time.
