Cortny leaped across the living room, not caring what she destroyed. She landed heavily in front of Jasper. She looked at him, noticing his many bite marks. They warned her, telling her that she needed to be careful, for this bloodsucker was an experienced fighter. But at the same time, they betrayed him, showing her where his weakly defended spots were. His left wrist held more scars than his right, and his neck held more near the back, where his hair hid them. Cortny and Jasper stood still for a second or less, both planning attack and defense. It was Cortny who broke the short silence.

With a roar, she lept towards Jasper, lunging towards his left shoulder. He dodged, whirling to face Cortny again. She was already charging towards him, and this time, she lashed out once with her mind. For a split second Jasper lost his concentration, wincing from the mental pain that Cortny had inflicted. That split second was all that Cortny needed to grab a hold of Jasper's shoulder. She bit down, feeling the granite skin crack underneath her razor sharp teeth. Jasper screamed, a grating sound that Cortny could hear ripping up his throat. Jasper drew his right arm back, then punched Cortny in the shoulder. She let go, letting her shoulder roll away from the impact of the punch. It hurt, but it luckily didn't break her shoulder.

By this time, Cortny could feel Jasper's fear rolling off of him in waves. The fear snapped her out of her rage. She felt disgusted with herself. Carlisle had rushed into the room, along with Esme. Esme looked with dismay towards the destroyed couch, while Carlisle ran to stand in front of Jasper.

"Cortny! Snap out of it! You need to calm down!" Carlisle yelled. But Cortny was already calmed down. She felt Jacob phase, his mind joining with hers. He searched through her memories, stopping at the one with Renesmee. Cortny braced herself. Then the cussing started. Jacob gave her a good lashing through with words, harshly scolding for scaring his Nessie. Cortny couldn't take it. She ran. She ran as far and as fast as she could, not caring that her stomach was growling. Over three hours later she stopped.

She was starving. She looked around, trying to identify her surroundings. The cold air hit her nose, carrying the scent of elk with it. Cortny quickly realized that she was somewhere up in the Canadian wilderness. She also realized that she needed food, and she needed it soon. Letting the wolf in her take over, she slunk to the top of the ridge she was standing on. A large herd of elk stood below, grazing on the protein-rich grass. Cortny scanned the herd, searching for a weak or old member. She soon spotted one, an old female with a open wound on her right flank. The wound slowed the old cow down, and she stayed away from any younger females or males, which would kick and bite at her. Cortny decided to end the old cow's misery. She stood, smelling and feeling the way the air was blowing, and started downwind of the elk. Before long she was close enough to leap. The herd bolted, running away from Cortny, but the old cow didn't make it far. Cortny swiftly killed it. She thanked the cow for her sacrifice, then again let her wolf instincts take over to eat. (Yes, female elk are called cows, while males are called bulls. Congratulations! You learned something new today.)

Once full, Cortny went down to a river to wash off her muzzle. She stuck her nose in the water, washing off all the blood and clearing her senses. Her mind was clear, now more human than earlier, when she had let the wolf inside take over. She heard the pack calling to her, felt their minds in the back of hers, but she ignored them. They weren't her real pack anyways.

That's cold Cortny. That's real cold.

Cortny realized that she had thought that last thought louder than she had expected. Seth had reacted the fastest, and he was the most hurt by the comment.
