2010, X-Factor
Just around a week later, I was sitting down in a coffee shop in Doncaster, an hour before my second stage of the X-factor, also deemed: Bootcamp.
Obviously, I was excited, but my hands were also shaking with nervous sweat. This could quite literally make or break my career, at only sixteen years old. Deep breathing, Harry, deep breathing.
I'm also excited to be seeing Louis again. I have his cardigan in my backpack, and I have a small suitcase by my feet. I pay the check, and get up to leave; in search of a motel.
After a little bit of walking, I come across a small motel building. It looks more like an appartment building, but still nice. I drop off my luggage, take a quick shower, throw on a beanie and grab my backpack before I'm on my way.
Once I'm outside, I signal over a cab, and start to make my way downtown to the x-factor studio.

When I arrive, there's a man working security there, named Paul. He smiles friendly-like and directs me to the stage we're meeting on. I sign in on a clipboard, go join the other boys, who're seated in the audience seats. There're about 40 to 50 girls sitting in the section over from the guys. I walk over to them and take a seat next to a smiling blond guy who looks about my age. I look around the room, before spotting a familiar brunette. I get up and plop myself down next to him, instead.
"Hello handsome." I say cockily. Wait. No shit, I didn't mean to say that. Shit! Why did I say that? He's gonna think that I like him or something! God dam-
"Harry! I knew you'd make it!" he tells me, smiling. Then, it turns to a smirk. "Handsome, eh?"
"What? Uh, I uh,-"
"It's alright, you're quite attractive as well." He tells me, winking. I feel a blush creep onto my cheeks.
Then they're calling attention to the front of the stage. They inform us that the events of today will consist of just dancing preformances. Tomorrow will be singing. I hear a few swears from the guys around me about the dancing part, including Louis. I'm not too excited either. I can't dance very well. The judges tell us that we'll be doing a few different types of dance, like freestyle and chorographed. The girls were going first however, so we had to sit and wait, then we would be taught the chorographed dance, then finish with freestyle. In the meantime, I gave Louis back his cardigan, and made chit-chat. It turns out he's from Doncaster, so he lives right uptown, only a few blocks from where I'm staying.
As the day goes on, the girls finish and it's the boys' turn. The chorographed dance wasn't as hard as I'd expected. I think I did pretty good. Right before we were about to go on, a guy with black hair refuses to dance and leaves the stage. I recognized him from auditions. Simon went after him though, and they talked apparently, so the guy came back and danced- fairly well, too. Overall, the whole day was quite a blur.

The next morning, I got ready and stopped for a quick breakfast at the nearby coffee shop. My mum phoned me, asking how I am and all that. She only let me hang up once I promised to call her after bootcamp was over today, to tell her if I made it. I had already planned on doing so.
I arrived at the studio and signed in for the second day. I also recieved the song options we were allowed to choose from and almost instantly chose "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" which was my favorite song about 2 years prior.
I was then ushered down a long hallway and into a room with around 10 other guys, where we all had to practice our songs. We practiced full on for about 2 hours straight, before we were brought backstage to get ready for our auditions. Makeup was dabbed on my face by unfamiliar people, and my hair was styled so that it looked better than before. I actually liked it. I went through my audition in my head, before my name was called to the stage.
I preformed alright. It wasn't my best work, because it was a little shaky at some parts, but overall, it wasn't my worst. I exited the stage, and sat with the other guys backstage for a while. Eventually, we were all called back up, and I was shaking with nerves. Much like my first audition. I realized how much I wanted to stay on this show. I really don't want to go home. In the meantime, I spotted Louis, and smiled at him, mouthing 'good luck'. He smiled and mouthed 'you too'.
Once they started saying who made it through, they called name after name, though neither of us were called. Finally they got down to the last name. I glanced nervously towards Louis. He got the picture. This means that even if one of makes it, it'll only be one. Both of us can't go through.
"Tom Richards"
My heart dropped to my stomach. I didn't make it. I made it this far, but i didn't make it. the judges mutter apologies, but I'm not listening. I trudge off stage with the other uncalled names, and look for Louis. He's like my only friend so far, and he didn't get through, I wanted to at least say goodbye. There's a few people hugging and crying, some happy, some sad. The blond who I was sitting next to yesterday is being interviewed, his face red, and crying. He didn't make it,
either.Just as I'm about to leave, I'm told to return backstage. I make my way through the small crowd, wondering what it's about. God, I hope it's good. Please let it be good.
The other guys who didn't make it through are standing around also. I see Louis, he's biting his nails, next to the previously- crying blond, who is also biting his nails. The man starts to speak.
"Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles. Head up to the stage. They're waiting for you."
I don't know what this is about. I really hope it's good and they're not going to trash us or something. I make my way on stage, and glance nervously at Louis, and the other guys. I'm too nervous to say anything, I assume the others are too, because we walk up in silence.
We stand in a short line, hearts beating furiously. Well, mine is anyway. There's a group of girls standing on the other half of the stage.
"Hi everyone. We're sorry about you all not making it through. I can tell it took a toll on many of you." one of the judges says. Well no shit, half of us are hysterical.
"But we do have some good news." Simon states. My heart rate picks up, if that's even possible. "We think, it would be a great idea, if we had all of you continue on,... in two seperate groups." Simon says, a smile hinting through his stern look.
I instantly cheer, and a smile consumes my face. The other boys let out woops of joy and thank the judges, then suddenly, I feel a body jump into my arms and wrap their legs around my waist.
"Louis. We made it, both of us!" I whisper in his ear.
"Yes, we did. We made it." He smiles against my shoulder,
we made it.
