PART TWO

It took a little bit longer for Mica to wake up, but the Doctors said that she was doing so well on her vitals that she probably just needed the rest. After almost a week of Mica being asleep there was finally signs that she was waking up.

A doctor came into the room, he checked the machine that Mica was hooked up to, and checked the tubes that were attached to her arms. Most of her cuts had almost completely healed, the bruises were just small yellow spots now, and the only thing that was still really bad was her broken arm. The bones were set right and were almost healed but she would have to go through therapy to be able to use it properly.

The doctor took a look at Mica, she had twitched slightly in her sleep and he wanted to make sure it was just her dreams, but just a moment later her eyes twitched open.

The doctor let out a breath of relief, Mica’s bright blue eyes opened wide as she realized she didn’t know where she was. Her eyes flicked back and forth frantically as she tried to think of where she could be, she tried to move and sit up but the doctor stopped her in time.

“Whoa there,” he said gently, “Don’t move too fast, you are still injured and need to be slow.” This was the first time she saw the doctor, she didn’t realize he was in the room with her.

“Where am I? What happened? Where are my parents?” questions flooded her mind and left her mouth in such a rush that it almost jumbled together and the doctor couldn’t understand that.

“Please, settle down.” The doctor reset the blanket over Mica and made sure the heart monitor was still plugged in right. “Now, because of procedure I need to ask you a few questions before I can answer yours. Can you tell me your name?”

Mica looked at the doctor funny but answered anyways, “My name is Mica.”

“Good, now do you know your birth date?”

“June twenty third.”

“Good. Last, do you know what happened?”

Mica had to think about this for a second. Then it all came flooding to her mind, “Yea,” she said slowly, her heart racing. “There was an accident… mom and dad was driving me to my new school… then someone hit us…” her eyes went wide and she looked at the doctor. “Where are my parents?”

The doctor looked down for a second, then he looked right into Mica’s eyes, “I’m sorry to tell you this… but you parents didn’t make it… your mother was killed instantly in the accident, your father on his way to the hospital in the ambulance…” without her knowing, tears had falling in heavy streams down Mica’s cheeks, her breathing became harsh sobbing.

“We tried everything we could, but they were hurt too badly, and lost too much blood. We were lucky to save you. Your arm is broken and you have a few cracks in your skull, but with some therapy you can be the way you were before the accident in no time.” The doctor tried to sound cheerful but Mica had turned him out. She was an orphan now… her parents were dead.

“Where will I go?” was the first thing that she said. She didn’t have a home now that her parents wouldn’t be able to pay for the home she knew and lived in.

“We have talked it over with some people, your parents had paid for over a year of boarding at your school in town and you will live there, finish your schooling and your parent’s life insurance can cover anything after that until you get a job.”

The shock of her parent’s death hadn’t hit her yet, she was crying, but that was everyone’s reaction to that. It seemed like someone was going to pop out from behind the door and yell “SURPRISE!” Mica hoped with all her heart that that would happen…
