Sam felt the burst of pain as one would feel a bucket of cold water in the morning. He doubled over, clutching his chest, and lay on the street, wheezing. A few merchants and farmers pulling wagons looked at him with mild interest, then moved on. Sam carefully stood up, brushed off the dirt on his shirt, and kept trudging along to Portman College.
He had been transferred from his old building to the Bane. Ambrose and Galen had taken care of everything. He was the perfect age to begin magic, and there were others about his age with potential from all four kingdoms.
Cross and the Alpha had returned swiftly to the castle, where the royal wedding had occurred.
Sam had been in the first row, along with the others.
Mayrelle had awarded them all with medals of honor, the rank fit for a prince or duke.
The Queen had married the Alpha leader, and the kingdom was safe.
Only one man had objected, being invited only because of his status.
Ray Stallion.
The Prime Minister of Origin had left the wedding, declaring war on the kingdom of Riptide for deploying troops without "clearance" in St. Gregory's Desert and killing his troops near Rosemont (technically speaking, a gigantic wave had, but he was not going to let that on).
Mayrelle had accepted, a gleam in her eye. She knew that Stallion had been involved with the Necromancer, and had banished Stallion from the kingdom, beginning to prepare the army.
She had relieved all of those with Sam and John from duty for the war. It was now her war, not Sam's. A traditional war. No magic.
As for the heroes, Sam had returned to Portman College with Ambrose and Galen. His father and mother had decided to leave their children and head northwest, to the Acacia Forest in northern Tzogras.
His brother, John, returned to the cove with Raphael, Fig, DC, Roland, and Hackham.
Carlsen had died during the crest of the Exterminator, drowning.
Her body, along with Toblerus, had been buried in the yard in front of Toblerus' hut in the woods.
Henrick had never been found, and Bray was washed out by the wave. They died true pirates, out at sea.
No survivors had been found, but the staff had been taken.
Sam had never found out who. He just knew they were somewhere out there.
Tuskward and Yann had never been found. Sam assumed they had gone low profile, hiding for a couple of years, in either Tzogras or Hyperion, the two neutral kingdoms. Maybe somewhere in the Snowy Fells.
Vowraid was burned, his ashes sent in the wind over the Bay of Borg. Prince Snowden returned to Hyperion, where his father was rightfully knocked off the throne. Snowden's coronation would occur in a few months.
Kian found a home with Thom. They are somewhere in Tzogras. That is what Sam had heard.
Prince Myles was crowned king of Tzogras a week ago. Ribeye became Chief Advisor, Chamberlain, and Earl of Chaffle all in one.
The people of Sanctuary and Rosemont had been offered money and goods for their troubles from the Royal Treasury, located in Ellon, and they had refused. Good people. You couldn't find that kind of people everywhere, anytime.
As for the Necromancer, or, the Necromancer's host, he was never found again. One of his daughters was found, killed by a soldier's spear. The other disappeared.
