"Okay, two favorite colors."

"Red and black."

"Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter?"

"Easy, Summer."

"What's the first thing you think of when I say 'orange'?"

"Fire."

"You see? See? Most people would totally say fruit, but you say fire. You are one hundred and ten percent pyrotechnic, I'm afraid."

I chuckled, slugging Adam in the shoulder. We both laid on the floor of one of his tree huts, staring and the intricate, vine-covered ceiling.

"But hey, there's nothing wrong with that!" He stated. "You're good at keeping your fires and explosions contained. So as long as you don't go burning down any forests, I'll support you."

"Thanks, man." I laughed again.

"That reminds me, I found a bunch of scorched leaves this morning, that wasn't you, was it?"

"Oh, uh, where? I don't think so." I lied.

"Well, it's not easy to explain the exact location, and I already cleaned them up. But I wont go pointing fingers at you! I know you aren't that reckless."

"Heh, yeah... Wait, you cleaned up burned leaves?"

"Yeah! Why not?"

"Oh," I shook my head, smiling. This kid was something else. "No reason."

"So..." He sang, and I gulped. I knew that tone of voice he had, it meant he was about to tease me about something. "That Eira girl, I totally saw you guys exchanging glances during lunch. What's going on with that?"

"Absolutely nothing."

"Oh now that's more bullshit than a cow itself can dish out."

"Ew... What?"

"Seriously man! Give me the deets on this. You guys never talked, and now you're looking at each other like you both got some sort of secret."

"Oh no, we're looking at each other!" I said sarcastically. "Never seen that before!"

"Nah dude, I know that sort of look. You have a connection, dontchya?"

"As far as I know, nope. None. Barely know her." That wasn't a lie. Sure, we shared the biggest secret in the history of ever, but that doesn't mean we're close friends just yet.

"Hmm." Adam sat up, stroking his chin, as though he had scruff. "I guess I have no choice but to believe you. And I shouldn't be prying anyway, but can you blame me? I mean, for real! I'm totally into this saucy stuff!"

"Which is exactly why I'm not telling you about my personal life."

He pouted, slumping his shoulders. "Well, shoot."

"I get to ask you questions now."

"Alright, go."

"Okay. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you wanna be?"

"The forest."

"Which one?"

"Any one!"

I laughed. "Favorite food?"

"Probably steak, or some kind of meat."

"Huh, I honestly expected salad."

He wrinkled his nose. "Nah, I try to avoid eating plants."

"Oh, huh. Alright. Hobby?"

"Building onto these, I guess." He gestured around the room, meaning his huts.

"You're totally an earth guy."

"What tipped you off, man?" He laughed. "The forest is my life. When I'm here, I can breath... I can feel the forest's life. Every tree, every flower... I tend to it. If something were to happen to even a fraction of this forest... I'd be devastated."

"I guess I can understand that... The earth is a beautiful place."

"Yeah! Some people make it sound very ugly. But all the ugly places are man-made, in my opinion. Seeing everything natural... That's beauty."

My cell phone suddenly rang, interrupting us. I picked up, and it was the devil herself.

"We need to talk." Eira said, her voice hard.

"Now's not a good time."

"I don't care. Meet me at that dopey-looking statue downtown."

"Oh, Mcderpson? Sure." I heard her snort on the other line. Hah, got her

"Yeah, whatever, you dork. See you." She hung up.

"Hey, Adam, I gotta go, if that's cool with you..."

"Yeah! That's fine. When the lady calls, you answer." He winked.

"You know nothing, Adam." I stood up. "Bye."

Although, it was strange... I couldn't think of any reason why Eira would want to talk to me... I would assume it's another thing about our powers, but the statue she wanted to meet me at was in public. So that's out...

What could she possibly want? I soon found myself running towards town.
