Aaliyah's POV

(2 days later)

Today was the day of my mom's surprise party. While Mom was at her all day spa, me and the girls were doing all the gift shopping and the men were cooking and getting the house cleaned. I'm honestly a bit nervous for two reasons: 1.) they'd fuck up the food and 2.) they interrogate Odell. I mean I know Dell can handle it but my family is pretty protective when it comes to the females in the family because we've been through a lot...

"So Liyah and I have new beaus in our life... so you mean to tell me there's no new boyfriend or ANYTHING in yours?" Taylor asked Ty. She pressed her lips together and shook her head. We were driving to the mall to start the quick gift shopping. "Well when will you start looking?" Taylor asked.

"Okay first of all. I'm not looking for a man, lets start there." Ty said in an accent, copying Rihanna's viral video. We all chuckled. "I mean at this point I'm kind of just letting things happen on its own. I prayed for a good man, and then God brought Malachi into my life... but then he walked out on me and it didn't work, but of course I was sad or whatever, but I knew that God had something better for me.. so I just gave it to God and let Him work his blessings, y'know?" she shrugged.

Malachi was Ty's ex-boyfriend, he was really really cute. (a/n: Michael is played by D'Angelo Russell). Everything was fine and then was fucking her up mentally, and then just walked out on her. It really was a shitty situation, and it took her a while to adjust and heal but she finally got through it.

That's one thing I always something that i admired about her: how when situations would turn around, she wouldn't lose the faith and know that there was something bigger and better.

Odell POV

Its been a few days since we've been in St. Louis and today's the day of Aaliyah's mom's surprise birthday party and her parent's anniversary. Aubrey's currently at an all day spa and everyone is out or home helping getting everything ready.

"Odell will you pass me the tap over there on the table?" Terrance (their dad) asked. I walked back onto the table up on the porch. I did as asked of me and handed it to him. "So how's everything going with you and Liyah? I mean, that is my babygirl."  he chuckled. I smiled at the thought of Aaliyah. I scratched the back of my head.

"Honestly, everything is going well. I think we're getting pretty... serious." I said putting emphasis on 'pretty'. He looked at me and smiled. He finished doing what he was doing while still talking to me. He got down off the ladder and we both started walking back up to the porch. He took a pause and looked at me.

"I shouldn't be asking you this... well shit I'm a grown ass man. Are you guys... ya know... bumpin?" he knudged. I looked at him for a second and smile hit my lips.

"Uhm--" I started.

"Yeah... yeah watch ya self now." he chuckled.

"No. No sir we are not 'bumpin'," I said with air quotes. He laughed and dapped me up and we continued to walk back into the house.

"...okay okay okayyy. Put the steaks on that plate there." he said pointing to the table where all the food was sitting. It was a little feast. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salad, collard greens, mac-a-roni, and whole lot more.

It had been about 45 minutes. Terrence went to go get Mrs. Aubrey and Aaliyah was running all around the place trying to make sure everything was fine. She was so cute running around. Her hair was up in a messy pony tail with little chopsticks in her hair, with a high-low shirt, some ripped cut off jeans at the ankle, and some little flats. One thing my baby can do: dress. Period. Soon everyone saw headlights turning into the driveway and Ty made an announcement.
