"FUCK!!! Late again." I don't know why I am always surprised, this happens everyday. I set my alarm for 6:00, and 6:15, and 6:30 and every five minute interval from then until 7 and I finally get up and start my day with "FUCK!!! Late again." It's whatever because my boss won't fire me, perks of working with your best friend I guess. But dear god she's gonna kill me, she's a stickler for time and we have a meeting with a big client today.
I've only been working with her since the new year because she started getting Indian clients and as a very white event planner she had no idea how to handle all the details of an Indian wedding ceremony. I give her props though she did much better than most others would. I take all credit for that. Rose and I have been friends since high school so I've had plenty of time to fill her in on Indian culture. She knows everything from the correct way to say "Namaste" to the fact that when henna is put on your hands it's called mehendi not a henna tattoo. I even taught her how to tie a sari. She knows how to handle Indian people and the basics of Indian culture but that's hardly setting her up to be able to handle everything from the baraat to the sangeeth, so she called me in to help. Honestly, most days I'm getting paid to sit there and chill because she's hardly the best event planner on the east coast for nothing.
Whoo, focus, Naina, focus. Anyway this meeting I have to be on time because we are meeting one of our biggest clients yet, the Malhotra-Reddy family. They own a chain of hotels and restaurants around the world, and Rose has been hounding me to be on time to this meeting if nothing else. Fuck, fuck, fuck, I'm about to miss my train.
Gasping for air I manage to jump into the grimy train on the New York metro just before the doors closed. I manage to make it to the office just before the clock struck 8:00. Rose gave me a "we'll talk about this later look" because the clients walked in right after me.
After Rose introduces herself, I do the same. "Hi, my name is Naina Kavuri. It's nice to meet you!"
