Chapter 1

Gusts of wind blew the dried out, dirty leaves scattered on the pavement. She felt a shiver down her spine, pulling her coat closer around her ice-cold body. The moon shone in the night sky but not a single star was seen in the vast sky. Her glazed eyes, focused on the moon, never wavered and it seemed like she never even blinked. But she did because she was human and she had to. Lydia never did anything unless she had to and standing in the middle of the desolate road at 11pm on a Sunday night was also something she had to do. The row of old terraced homes look like so small when she pictured where she was going and what lay ahead of her.

As if pulled out of a trance, Lydia suddenly looked down at her black flats and then looked at the place she once called home. She hugged her body as she felt another cold gust against her bare legs. She regretted wearing shorts but they brought out Lydia's long, sexy legs and she needed to make a good impression. She turned her head to see blinding pair of headlights pulling up infront of where she stood. She looked at the grey car, planning the ways she could escape, when she realised that it was the taxi she had been waiting for all night. She let out a relieved sigh not even knowing that she had been holding her breath.

Before getting into the taxi, she looked back at the house one last time. She remebered booking the coach ticket and the flight and hiding it to make sure no one knew what she was planning. How she had managed to trick her parents into thinking that she would need to pack all her things to prepare for the so called 'camping trip she would have with her friends this coming Saturday' she didn't know. But it was done now and she had even managed to sneak out all her things and Lydia had told her mum that she was just popping out to the shop for some late night snacks before she called the taxi company. She regretted the lies she had to tell to make her dream possible but it was something she had to do. The first thing that came to mind when she got into the taxi was a line from Iggy Azalea's 'Work' : 'No money. No family. 16 in the middle of Miami'. Yes she was practically broke, had no family where she was heading, was 16 but nowhere near Miami because this was boring England.... Not for long though... Lydia smiled as she directed the taxi to go to the bus station.
