"Phil?"

"Yes Dan?"

"We'll be best friends forever, right?"

Six year old Phil took Dan's hand in his own.

"Of course Danny. I love you."

"I love you too Phil."

"But Dan? I sort of need to tell you something."

"Yes?"

"Daddy said we're moving away..."

******************Ten Years Later******************

Dan trudged down the hallway to his English Class, a few minutes ahead of schedule. He hated the class but he kept decent grades anyway. He turned in to the classroom, ignoring the teacher's smile and reaching up to adjust his headphones. Dan sat in his usual seat in the back and watched the seats fill around him. The teacher stepped to the front of the class with a boy that Dan didn't recognize. The boy had a similar haircut to his own, with a Pokémon T-shirt and black jeans like Dan's. The teacher was saying something about the boy but Dan didn't feel like taking his headphones out to listen.

The teacher pointed at Dan and the boy looked curious before walking over and sitting in the empty seat to Dan's right. Dan still didn't pay attention to him, doodling in his journal.

After a couple of minutes, Dan felt a tap on his shoulder. Startled, he looked expectantly at the new kid, pulling out his right headphone.

"Yes?" Dan questioned.

"Are you... Is your name Dan?" The boy asked, looking down at his hands.

"Indeed it is. Did the teacher tell you?"

"No, umm, actually I recognized you I think. Dan Howell right?"

Dan looked shocked "That's my name, yes. How the hell did you know that?"

The boy smiled sadly, looking up at Dan. "My name is Phil. Phil Lester."

Dan's mouth dropped. He opened his mouth to say something when-

"Daniel? Would you like to share what you're saying with the whole class?"

Dan blushed "No ma'am." He looked down, slowly ripping a piece of his notebook paper. He scribbled something on it before handing it to Phil.

Phil took it and unfolded it. He glanced down to see the untidy scrawl "Meet me at lunch outside the cafeteria."

Phil smiled at Dan and nodded. Dan smiled back.

Time ticked by slowly, classes snailing by, both boys waiting as patiently as they could possibly stand before rushing out of their seats when the bell rang. The second they met in front of the cafeteria, they hugged.

"I missed you so much Danny."

"Phil, I missed you too. Do you want to sit with me? I usually eat in the library."

Phil pulled away from the hug but left his arms around Dan's waist "Of course I do. Let me go get my sandwich out of my locker and I'll meet you there?"

Dan smiled, "Sure thing Phil."

******************

After an hour of talking about their new lives, how Phil had dyed his red hair black and that Dan had gotten his ears pierced, how they had gotten similar haircuts without seeing each other in ten years, coming out to their families and everything else they could think of. By the time the end of lunch bell rang, the boys had exchanged numbers and plans to hang out after school to catch up more.

Dan walked Phil to his next class in comfortable silence, occasionally looking up at each other before blushing and looking away. When they reached Phil's classroom, the boys turned to face each other. Dan opened his mouth to interrupt the awkwardness but suddenly felt Phil's lips press to his own for a second before he realized to kiss back. Phil placed his hands on Dan's face and Dan's went to rest on Phil's hips. Dan pulled away softly.

"I'm definitely glad you came back." Dan whispered

"Of course Danny." Phil replied, "I love you"

"I love you too Phil. I always have."
