Derek's POV

"Attention my fellow wolves we are gathered her to discuss the impending war. As you know the Krogen are back and as a result we are activating Protocol Halo. The first stage of Protocol Halo evacuating the worlds leaders to a safe and secure location is complete. We have tried to evacuate major cities but of course everyone doesn't always make it out. Now stage two of Protocol Halo is to evenly distribute our forces across the planet. We will be collaborating with armies across the globe. The Wolf Council will be in charge of our forces but we are assigning a commander to each major army."

"Congratulations", Stiles whispered

"Why are you congratulating me?"

"A certain someone might have hacked into the Council's private severs and found out that they are making you a commander."

"Their doing what? Are they crazy I'm not ready to command anyone?", I said

"You're a great leader and I believe in you Derek."

"Lieutenant Hale meet me in my office."

I look away from Stiles and see Council member Deaton at the door waving me over. I see other lieutenants going with different council members. I look around and see everyone is staring at me in admiration and some jealousy. It makes me nervous, I look at Stiles and he is smiling at me in that moment all my nervousness fades away. I smile back at him and start walking towards Deaton.
"I guess congratulations are in order?", he says

"There's no need for that sir."

"Sure it is you have just been made the commander you should be proud."

"I am sir believe me."

"Good so let's discuss the details then.", he said as we walked into his office. "Now you will be working side by side with the United States Army. There is currently a Krogen ship hovering above Los Angeles, the U.S. has set up a base at the nearest town outside of  L.A called Beacon Hills. You will go there and be our eyes and ears on the ground leading the troops. Collect your things and be at Hanger 2 at 0800 hours tomorrow. Any questions?"
"No sir.", I said

"You're dismissed."

I walked out of his office and just stood there watching the people pass me by. I was lost in thought I couldn't believe that the Council actually noticed all my hard work over the years I was starting to think that I was just another everyday solider in this army, it's nice to see I'm actually noticed.

I smiled and headed back to my room to tell Stiles that he was right.

Stiles POV
"Congratulations!"

I yelled when Derek entered the room. He looked around the room first at the hand written congratulations banner I hung on the ceiling and then at the sandwiches I stole from the cafeteria.

"What's all this?", he asked

"We are celebrating you being promoted to Commander."

"Let's hope I don't lead us all to our deaths."

"Don't talk like that."

"Its a possibility Stiles!"

"Look I believe in you so how about you shut up and eat these sandwiches with me."

Derek sat down and we ate sandwiches and he told me about his family. How his older sister Laura used to always pick on him and how Cora was always his favorite. He told me how he missed them and when all of this is over he was going to go visit them and he was going to take me with him. When we noticed it was getting late Derek went to go take a shower while I threw away the remains sandwiches and took down the banner. When Derek got out the shower we cuddled up in the bed. From the way he was holding me I think we both realized that this would be the last moment of peace that we would get. As we laid there the thought of the war weighed in my mind, like what if Derek got hurt and I would be left all alone. I'm not like him even if my physical body gets destroyed I'm backed up in the Wolves mainframe but if Derek gets hurts I'll be left all alone. I can't think like that Derek is already feeling self conscious about being in charge so I need to be his rock and believe in him. From the way Derek is snoring in my ear I can see he is fast asleep i guess I should shut down too we are going to war tomorrow.
