"Serra...?" I say as I see some of the healers taking her off the fence, Ms.Helgath holding me by my arms so that I couldn't run over to her.
"Don't worry Little One, Serra will be... fine, I'm sure of it..." She says to me. "Amarin help us." She shortly says under her breath.
Serra wasn't moving or yelling, she looked like she was sleeping. She was still breathing but it wasn't very fast, and it looked like she was slowing down with each breath. The priest walked over to us, I could see the dread in his eyes as my eyes finally started to water and tears flowed down my face. Through the tears I see him whisper to Ms.Helgath, It was more of a whisper as to lessen the blow other than to be quiet as I heard every word as he spoke, "I am afraid her wounds are too severe... I can ask the Gods to give her atonement but there is nothing more that we can do to save her. I'm sorry."
Why did it have to be her! Ms.Helgath is always saying that the Gods are helpful and loving. Why did they have to take my family from me? First it was Mama and Papa couldn't afford to keep us, then Killion got adopted... now Serra is going to...

I wake up breathing hard as I raise up from the stone bed. "It was just a dream," I say aloud to myself, "It's gonna be alright..."
"Having a troubled time staying asleep there Thief?" Smitty says to me from the other cell.
"Yeah, just had a bad dream was all. Why are you still awake Smitty?"
"I don't particularly like sleeping... makes those guys with the good ideas go away."
I laugh a small bit, "I see why they call you crazy Smitty."
I see him smile in the dim light given off by the moon. "Get some sleep... Big day tomorrow."
"I don't know... I know there's an event but I don't wanna hang around for too long."
"Goodnight Thief." I see him snap as my eyes feel droopy and I fall back onto the stone slab. The last thing that comes to my mind is 'Ouch'.

I hadn't slept that night. Ms.Helgath told the other caretakers that it was because I wasn't used to the church they let us sleep in while the orphanage was being repaired. But she knew why, and so did everyone else.
"Serra... Serra... Serra... Serra... Serra..." I whispered to myself as I sat, my eyes red and cheeks puffy, hot tears streaming down my face endlessly. "Serra... Why did you have to go... you said you'd stay. You said you'd take me with you... Serra... Serra...."
I couldn't get the picture out of my mind. Her landing on the fence and screaming. I shuddered and sat next to the wall hugging my legs, staring at the floor, wanting back the one thing in the world that I was now never, Never, going to have again.
My Family.
"Little one... I don't know what to say that could help you, but I do want to say that it's going to be alright." Ms.Helgath said standing behind me.
I turned to her and yelled back at her, "Alright? Alright?! You think that it's going to be alright? Serra isn't here anymore! She was the last bit of my family that was here, and you're saying that it's going to be alright?!" I quickly saw the hurt in her eyes as it made me cry more and I hugged her. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I... I..." I try to continue talking as my lip keep quivering and the sobs keep coming out.
"It's ok Little One, I know you hurt... But it will be ok... I'm sure someone will adopt you soon and you can have a family." She says as she smiles wholeheartedly at me.
"It won't be the same without Serra... It never will be." I say through the tears as she hugs me tighter as I cry, not stopping for hours into the night.
