There's Nothing There

Kali POV

"Let's eat!" I said.

I had to make sure that everyone was sitting by someone they like, so of course I made a seating chart.

My mom and dad were sitting by Nalani and Amber, Vanessa's daughter. Destany sat on the other side of Mom. Aaquil sat next to Destany, Vanessa, and Danielle. I sat on the other side of Danielle and Khalif sat next to me. Their mom and dad sat next to him and Ayanna ended the table.

"Well, everybody looks good tonight." I said striking up conversation.

"Destany, what's wrong? You're not eating." Dad said.

"I'm just tired." She said looking at her plate. I looked at Slim, then her, then Slim again.

"What happened?" I mouthed.

"I'll tell you later." He mouthed back. I nodded.

"So Dad, how's your new job going?" I asked him.

"It's fine, sweetheart." He responded. "How's your career? Every time I meet someone, they're like your daughter is everywhere."

I laughed. "It's good."

"We're so proud of you. Isn't it nice to have your child do something productive in their life?" Mom said looking at Bernadette.

"You really pushing it." She said.

She raised her hands. "It was just a question." She took a sip of her drink and asked another question. "So, Bernadette, where's your husband?"

"Why are you so fixated on my life?"

"I'm most definitely not fixated on your life."

"Then shut the fuck up." She said. Khalif grabbed her arm but she moved it.

"Hold on, because I'm not taking disrespect from some old ass bitch who still lives in a Motel. That's a shame that your sons make all this money and don't give you shit!"

My eyes widened when she said that. "Mom, calm down." I said.

"First of all, you need to shut your mouth because you don't know what you're talking bout. I don't live in a Motel but you will, according to what I'm about to do to you."

"Touch me, I'll sue your broke ass."

Bernadette looked at me and said, "I know I promised to respect your house but I swear for God, if this bitch says something else to me-"

"I gave you life, bitch."

"You don't give me shit but you look a little thirsty so you need to cool the fuck down." She said before she threw a drink at her. They started fighting. Meechie and Toosi pulled out their phones and started recording.

Destany took the kids to another room while Khalif and I tried to break it up.

"Get this fucking Mario Kart looking ass bitch away from me."

"I'm gonna call the police now!" My mom said.

"I don't give a fuck cause that's all you ever do!" She said walking out the door with Khalif.

I was really hoping for a good conversation tonight but I guess not. They really have to learn how to control this because every time they're in a room together, they fight.

"Mom, you can't keep doing this. I'm trying to protect something that means a lot to me but you don't understand that." I said to her.

She looked at me and said, "I'm trying to protect you but you don't understand that, so I don't wanna deal with you again."

"Just leave, okay?"
