"Thank you so much, have a great day, sir!"
The elderly couple both gave me a small wave as they walked off, arm in arm. I gave them another smile before looking down at the small case on the ground. Mostly one's and five's, but there was a lot of them. I couldn't complain. Today was going pretty good.
If you didn't figure it out already, I'm a street performer. I stand on the corner of Altair and Elmwood Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, playing my ukulele for money. I'm pretty good, if I do say so myself. Each day, I make a pretty fair amount of money. And it would continue to go that way if it weren't for—
"(Y/N)!"
My eyes shut and I took a deep breath. Tyler Joseph. Yes, the Tyler Joseph, lead singer of the infamous band Twenty One Pilots. When he wasn't on tour, he was constantly bugging me and interrupting my performances by bringing his own ukulele and playing the same songs as me, which lead to tons of girls crowding around him and making the space completely useless to me. It was so annoying. It's like he does it on purpose, sabotaging my stage and stealing my money from me.
When I opened my eyes, he was still making his way towards me, a giant smile on his face. I groaned and let my shoulders slump forward. Business was going so great. He crossed the street and came up to me, hands resting in the pocket of his sweatshirt, his legs hidden in his black skinny jeans. His cocoa brown hair rose in messy tufts, and his stubble was getting noticeable. My annoyance grew when he gave me a smile. Not because of his smile, but because of how his smile made my stomach do flips. Every time he spoke, I felt my cheeks heat up and my stomach feel hollow.
It was really annoying.
"Hey, (Y/N)," he said, giving me a toothy grin. "How's business?"
"Fine," I replied, my eye twitching slightly. "How's the band?"
"Pretty good. We just played a sold out show in Colorado. It was intense."
"Sounds great, Tyler," I said flatly. I started fidgeting with the strings of my ukulele, pretending to check if it was tuned. Which, in all honesty, I sort of was.
"Um, yeah.." He scratched the back of his head and looked at the ground. I looked up at him through my lashes. He looked pretty awkward, just standing there in front of me. I mentally cursed myself for what I was about to do.
I sighed and held out my ukulele. "Hey, Tyler.." He looked up at me. "Wanna play it? But only for a little bit! Not too long. I don't want things getting hectic."
His eyes lit up and his smile returned. "Yeah, sure!" He grabbed it from my hands and plucked a few of the strings before giving me another smile. I returned it with a half-assed smile of my own. He started to strum, and took a breath before starting:
Wise men say,
"Only fools rush in.."
But I can't help falling in love with you..
A crowd began to gather, but thankfully it wasn't a bunch of teenage girls. Just a small crowd watching a man sing to a girl.
Wait.
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin,
if I can't help falling in love with you..
I looked at Tyler, who was looking at me with...sincerity? Affection?
