"Jess, I'm so excited you're coming here!" my sister squeals. " I feel like we haven't seen each other in 40 years! Do you know how long that is?"
"Vivianne, it's been three months," I laugh.
My sister Vivianne lives in Alabama. She moved in with her husband Mark last year and recently had two adorable children; Tyler and Ryan. Three months ago, I finally moved out of my college dorm and started my career as a fashion manager. We haven't been able to talk to each other as much because I've been swamped with my job and she has to take care of her children. Recently, I took a one month vacation so I can visit my sister and her family. I know one month sounds like a lot but I need it. I haven't taken a break.
I went from high school to college and then immediately went to my job. I wanted to get my life together before I did anything extreme.
"RYAN!" I hear on the other end of the phone. "I'm sorry Jess. I'm going to have to call you later. Ryan got into the dryer again. I don't understand how he does these things," she sighs.
"That's okay," I laugh. "Tell the family I said hello."
After we end the call, I set my phone down on the table. I start to walk to the couch but then realize that it's 11:37. I need to go back to work tomorrow so I need my beauty sleep. I turn and walk to my bedroom. It's the only one in my small apartment. My one bedroom, one bathroom, one kitchen, one living room, one...well you get the idea.
I get into my room and grab all my shower necessities. Walking into the bathroom, I feel a sharp pinch in my foot.
"Shit!" I yell. "That fucking hurt."
I look down and find a little staple in the bottom of my foot.
"How the actual fuck did this get here?" I wonder.
I take the staple out and see little red blood dots forming. This is just wonderful, I think as I roll my eyes.
I hobble into the bathroom and set my stuff on the toilet. I set my water temperature and then start to undress. Should I go to the doctor? Maybe not, it's only a staple after all. Nothing harmful, well nothing severe at least.
After my shower, I dry off and quickly get into my night clothes. I shuffle towards my bed feeling a little ting with each step I take. Once I'm snuggled into my covers, I doze off.
