As the professor didn't come in the next lecture, we went out. I noticed July asking something at the enquiry counter. As the curiosity in me was rising, I told Kevin to wait in canteen. I went and stood at a safe distance where she couldn't see me.
"Isn't there any other subject I can take?" July asked.
"I'm afraid not." The lady, Mrs. Carlo replied.
She banged the counter and stormed out. Oh! So July The Villian wants to change her subject, I wondered. But I just hope we are only having Literature in common, I can't bare her more than that. It's like by default I have grown hatred for this girl. As I said I met Kevin in the canteen. We took our regular place and did our usual thing. Our usual thing includes passing comments and laughing at others.
After few minutes, the storm entered. She looked frustrated. As the canteen was almost full, she had no option but to sit on the table exactly in front of me. We both frowned as she noticed me and turned our faces.
"You know what buddy, someone tried to change her subject but failed miserably." I said loudly to Kevin so that she could hear it. Kevin had no idea what I was talking about, but he saw July and gave me the you-talking-about-her look. I nodded. July tried to ignore us.
"Oh, so seems like someone is always going to fall near the third bench...." Kevin said and we both burst out laughing.
"Thank god this torture is only for one subject." I rolled my eyes.
I was watching her this whole time. Her anger growing with every comment we passed. But then she got up and paced towards our table. She picked up the glass of water and splashed it on my face.
"Look Connor, mind your own fucking business and stop trying to talk to me." She shouted.
"Me? Trying to talk to you?" I asked wiping my face.
"Please get over yourself." I said shrugging.
"And for your very kind information Ms. Attention Seeker, you are the one initiating the conversation." I smiled.
"You-..." she pointed and came closer, but didn't say anything else. She backed off, took her things and left.
"1-0 Ms. AS..." I called from behind, but she ignored it.
After giving a good show to the people in canteen, Kevin and I headed to our respective classes. We had two subjects uncommon. As I entered I saw a familiar face. I rolled my eyes, but as soon as she saw me I faked a smile. I went and sat behind her.
Suddenly I realised that we both now have three subjects in common, and instantly I regret my decision for taking these subjects. Realisation hit me hard. But why do I care? I cleared my mind and focused on the lecture. Yes, I have promised mom that I would score good grades this year. She has warned me that if she gets any complaint about me, she will make sure I don't participate in basketball this year.
Soon, the lectures were over and everyone was leaving. I hate the chaos made by the people so I always left at the end. I sat there playing with my keychain. But today, I had a company. For a few minutes no one spoke.
"The bell rang," I said, " you know...."
She turned around, "do I need your permission?" She asked.
"Don't you want to go home?" I asked.
She didn't reply. For the first time in this whole day she didn't reply. She carried on with her work. After half an hour, her cellphone rang.
"Yeah mom, I had some doubts so I stayed back."
" I know I should have called..."
She said. The person on the other side, of course her mom spoke.
"I'm leaving..." July said, her mood was down the moment her mom said something. Her facial expressions changed. She kept the phone and started packing her stuff.
"Liar liar, pants on fire..." I said.
She gave me a look, "don't you want to go home?"
"Nope." I said, "this isn't my usual time."
"Okay." She said and left.
"See you tomorrow Ms. AS." I said, but she was gone.
The only thing which came into my mind was why did she lie to her mother? She is hiding something and I have to find out what it is....
