I was mesmerized. Utterly struck. Then he spoke, "So?"
His voice was like an angel made love with a throathy man and he was the result. I couldn't even reply.
I gave a grimace and shrunk into the towel further. The crooning love song was getting on my nerves, so I put my hand on the radio to change it and thats when the mysterious stranger decided to change it as well. He put his hand on top of mine, unknowingly.
Now this may sound cliche but, sparks.
I pulled my hand, faster than lightning and laid it in my own lap. It was as if somebody had electrocuted me. The sparks were definitely there, and it wasn't my imagination, for sure. A fazed silence followed. The stranger was deeply thinking about something, a frown knitted in his forehead.
"What's your name?" I broke the silence.
"Ayden. Yours?"
"Carrie."
Then I realised he needed to get the directions to my house. I programmed it into the GPS.
His breathtaking face twitched into a smile, " Well aren't you miss smarty pants? "
"I kinda am, was the topper in all my classes." I smugly came back, accompanied with a smirk.
"Why do you have towels in your car anyway?"
He simply said," Cuz I'm smart." When I glared at him he continued," No, Carrie I always carry towels in my car when it rains." He finished off. But I didn't pay attention to his explanation. I was way too enticed by the way he said my name. It just rolled off his tongue perfectly. Sigh. I mean how much more dreamy can he get?
As I squinted at him, trying to get a better angle to see more than just his blue pools of heaven, failing miserably as so. He glanced my way, and caught me red handed in my trance of staring at him. He gave me a smug smirk, so I bit my tongue and looked away through the window.
It was hard to see but, through the window, I stared at the heavy mist of rain and fog. It was a wonder Ayden could see through the fog. Nevertheless, I shut my mouth and tapped my feet to the soothing soul music. My mind was in a dizzy haze. Two things I liked about this stranger, his eyes and music. But my curious mind ruined my peaceful state. It filled my skull with questions about the sparks. The sparks weren't my imagination. No, they were, I firmly told myself. Cause that was a branch of love. And love always, always hurts. No, I wouldn't allow myself to fall. Not this time. Not again.
Never again.
Ayden pulled up to my house, and till then the rain had slowed down to a drizzle. I got out of the car and grabbed my bag. I peered in and thanked Ayden for the life-saving. I didn't want to but I had to go back so, painfully tearing my eyes away and giving him a shakey smile I walked up the stairs. And as soon as the warmth of home cocooned me I started coming back to earth.
Looking for my sister, I was going to rip her hair out for abandoning me.
More later,
Carrie.
