Chapter 1
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock buzzing, turning groggily to my side I looked at the time. 4 a.m., WAIT 4 A.M.? “John” I screamed “What the hell?!” Thankfully, I easily dosed into a restful, blissful sleep. I really wasn’t even surprised my alarm was set for some unholy time of the morning, it wasn’t the first and it certainly wouldn’t be the last time this would happen with a brother like mine around. It felt like I had only been sleeping five minutes when I was suddenly shaken awake at eight by the devil’s reincarnate.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” I shouted, “And why was my alarm set for 4 a.m.?” “I have no idea what you’re talking about” he said, skipping out of my room. Somehow I managed to pull on my tights, skirt, shirt, tie and blazer with the threat of sleep breathing heavily on my back. I slapped on my make-up as fast as I could and grabbed my satchel before running down the stairs, two steps at a time. “Christ, look at the time!” Grabbing a cereal bar I ran for the door, barely making the bus. Climbing up the steps I heard a familiar voice, “Having a nice day so far Sophie?” said Talia Jones sarcastically with her snobby posh accent. Of course Jake’s arm was around her. I hated Talia ever since our first day of P.1 and that hatred has never ceased. The newest reason to hate her, she stole my boyfriend.
I still miss Jake. He was perfect for me; I shared so much with him and trusted him with my life. We had being going out for three months and then Talia decided she wanted him. Suddenly she was always at his locker, talking to him, laughing with him with her skinny arm touching his. I asked him if anything was going on but he quickly replied I was the only one for him. Two days later he dumped me and got with her. That was last July.
She flicked her perfect blonde hair, waiting for my reply. “Fine” I replied bluntly. I took my seat and I must have looked pretty pissed as I heard my best friend Jane say “Just breathe”. I could hear Talia’s tinkling laugh all the way from the back of the bus. God, why was she so perfect? Her hair always sat immaculately, her skin was always flawless, her nails always looked freshly manicured, her skin was still golden from her holiday in the Bahamas and she had the most perfect boyfriend, Jake. Suddenly we reached the school, Saint Bartholomew’s, to get in to it you either had to be insanely posh or insanely smart. I unfortunately fell in to both categories and was stuck at this stupid prep school. I hated the first day back after the summer especially
I said bye to Jane and headed to my locker. I put all my books in it that I had taken home last year and my new ones when I suddenly spotted someone I definetly didn’t want to see. “Ugh…” I groaned. It was Louis. “Hey Sophie” he said cheerfully. He was way too peppy for nine in the morning. I had kinda rebounded with him after Jake. BOY, was that a mistake! Now he basically stalked me, looking for another chance. Sure he was cute, but he was too needy. “Uhmm…. Hey Louis.” “So… how about another date? You know you can’t resist me!” “No sorry Louis, I can't.” I quickly escaped and ran to my first class, English with miss Stein, when I ran into someone knocking their stack of papers “sorry…” I began but then I saw who it was, Jake.
“Uhm hey, uhm it’s ok.” He replied. I helped him pick up his papers, handing them to him he said “So how are you?” “Fine” I grumbled. “Look, I’m really sorry how things ended, maybe we should…” “Don’t worry about it” I replied, quickly running off to English. “You’re late miss Palmer” “Sorry miss…” Let the torture insue…
