Heart of stone.
Chapter one.
Darkness... All I can see is darkness, I am surrounded by it, drowned in it...
A sharp left turn is made clearly by the car as I slide and bump the top of my head on something.
I don't know where I am or where I'm going, or rather where were going. All I know is that some one must have stuck me in the trunk of a car, I can tell because I smell the over powering sent of gasoline and exhaust fumes and the very uncomfortable probing of what I'm presuming and hoping is a tire wrench in my ribs.
I also know that I'm not alone. Someone is with me in the trunk. They are terrified. I could hear whimpering and crying ever so softly and a body much smaller than mine shaking and shivering. I try to calm whisper calming words, not only to the person in front of me but to my self as well.
I tried to speak, I tried to whisper that everything was going to be ok. I couldn't say anything, but make muffled noises due to the gag over my mouth.
Instead I place my chin on the top of their head, at first she finches and moves away from me. I shuffle closer so that their head is on top of my breasts and my chin once again on top their head. The overwhelming smell of grapes that fill my nostrils and the feel of silky soft hair bellow my chin and the fact that their head fits under my chin almost perfectly make me believe the person in front of me is a girl, a young girl for a matter of fact.
Yet, they are still shaky and crying and shivering. The first thing that comes to mind is the lullaby my mother used to sing to me whenever I used to be afraid or upset, so I start humming it as loudly as I possibly can.
Slowly her breathing gets slower and shallower, minute and minute as I hum the same tune over and over again. She nuzzle closer to me, seeking comfort and I stroke her head with my cheek.
The car is still going, I can feel where left and right turns are being made.
I wish I could say I knew where we were but I lost track since I was snatched from the parking lot behind my office building.
I felt the fresh ocean breeze caress my cheek when the girl was thrown into the trunk. After that the car sped off again.
The car seemed to speed up quickly, like we were on a highway or something. The gravel seemed to smooth out and we seemed to glide over the tar towards the selected destination.
We kept travelling for what deemed like several hours.
The car came to a sudden stop and we sled to the back of the trunk. The ignition shut down and complete silence fell over us.
A few minutes later I could hear the key slide into the lock of the trunk, turn once, then twicr and unlock with a click.
When the trunk opened I was stunned by the harsh unforgiving light and I felt the girl in front of me disappear as her muffled screams filled the air.
I looked up at the person coming to take me out of the trunk and looked into very familiar eyes, the familiar eyes of death.
