Mikaela Wren's POV
~
I glanced out the car window to get a glimpse of the large Victorian house that was standing right in front of me. My previous one story house was a card board box compared to this monster house.
"Did you know that the last family that lived here died in the home?" my father spoke humorously as he averted his attention away from the road to look at me in the rear view mirror.
"Gee, Dad, that sure is a comforting thought," I said, rolling my eyes as my mother turned around and gave me a dirty look for not calling him 'father', "how'd they die?"
"The lady of the house died during child labor and her husband kill-" he began, but was soon cut off by my mother.
"Don't scare her, James!" she scolded, smacking his arm. He laughed in response and exited the car, my mother followed suit a few seconds later. I sat in silence for a few minutes and wondered what my life would be like in this new town.
I finally got out of the car after my impatient mother nearly dragged me out by my wrists. I stood in the front yard gazing at the front of the house. When something caught my eye.
A young girl that looked to be about my age gawking at me from one of the second story windows. I shook my head in disbelief and looked around for my parents who had already gone inside. I twisted back around to discover that the girl had disappeared.
My eyes widened in shock. What if she's a murderer? Will she kill me in my sleep?
Millions of thoughts and worries raced through my mind as I rushed inside of the old house, only to run into my mother.
"Mikaela Wren, what on earth are you running for?" she quizzed, with her eyes full of bewilderment. I debated on if I should tell her what I saw or if I should just forget about it.
"Um...Nothing. Just excited to explore the new house," I spoke quietly, my eyes flickering around the foyer. She pressed her lips into a thin line and furrowed her brows which meant 'I don't believe you, but I don't feel like asking,' and called for my father. I let out the breath that I didn't know I was even holding and relaxed.
"James! Come help me with the luggage!" she screeched, making me cringe.
"Coming, Renee!" he shouted back from god knows where. She huffed and turned back to me.
"Why don't you go and pick which room you would like to be yours, dear," she spoke warmly and then exited with my father to go retrieve our bags.
I fiddled with the bracelets on my wrist and slowly started to make my way to the stairs. My eyes traveled along staircase as I began to make the journey to the second floor.
Welcome to the murder house.
