Mikaela's POV

I slowly walked through the upstairs hallway; my hands trembling with fear.

Who was that girl?

I came to a halt when I heard a horrendous noise coming from above me. I tilted my head to look up to see what looked like the entrance to an attic. The noises continued and it made me curious, but then I remembered. Don't be like the idiots in horror movies, just walk away.

I quickly stumbled away from the attic opening and swung open a random door. I cautiously walked inside of the spacious room. It was painted a medium blue-green and was filled with nearly all the furniture from the person who lived in this room before me.

"Why would they just leave all of this here?" I whispered, walking further into the room. I whirled around when I heard a box slam on the floor.

"Here is one of your many boxes," my father said whilst looking around the room, "this is quite the room, huh?" he chuckled and I gave him a half smile.

"Yeah. Thanks for bringing in my stuff," I replied walking over to the box and opening it.

"No problem, sweetheart," he said kindly and began to exit the room, "by the way, kiddo, me and your mother are going out for a grownups night. The drive down here was a sign that me and your mother need to get out more. So you'll have the house to yourself this evening," he finished and I stopped rummaging through the box.

"So you're leaving me here alone in an old, creepy house that I barely know my way around? And not to mention, all of the previous owners died here!" I exclaimed, standing from my crouching position and crossing my arms.

"Honey, you'll be fine," he reassured, "plus, I don't think anyone could kill you. You're a tough one!" he laughed and pulled me into a hug. I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms around him.

"Fine, but if I see anything weird, I'm out of here," I replied with a genuine smile on my face. He laughed and stepped out of the room, leaving me to wonder about the girl I saw earlier.

*TWO HOURS LATER*

My parents red van backed out of the driveway, leaving me alone in my new residence. Thanks for leaving me in a house of death.

I waltzed into the kitchen and rummaged through the cabinets and fridge to find something decent to eat. I started making Ramen noodles-how classy-when I saw something outside.

There was a woman who looked to be in her early 20's. She was talking to a tall man with dark brown hair, almost black. Why were there strangers in my backyard?

The man turned around and stared at me with his piercing blue eyes, causing the young girl to turn around.

Oh no. I'm going to die, I thought as I backed away from the window and into the counter. Breathe, Mikaela, breathe. It's just your imagination.

When I looked back to the window the two strangers were gone. I shook my head and turned around to my bowl of noodles. I grabbed a fork and threw it into the bowl.

I could still see the man's cold blue eyes in my mind. I shivered and began eating.

I was interrupted from my very nutritious dinner when a young boy with long, wavy blonde hair came into my view. His dark eyes watching me from around the corner he was hiding behind. I tilted my head, mesmerized by this strange boy, whose name I did not know. I didn't even acknowledge the fact that a stranger had entered my home unknowingly. It was like I was under a spell, his spell.

I blinked my eyes and the boy had disappeared. I was greeted by an empty space and no recollection of what had happened. The only thing I saw was an open door that looks like it leads to a basement. I dropped my fork and rushed to the door. I peered into the darkness and placed my foot onto the first step.

Bad idea.
