Miya’s POV

“What do you mean there’s been an accident?!” I yelled into my phone over the blast of the bass. I detached from Kale’s arms, “I’ll be home with the car in a couple minutes.” I added in a rush, ignoring Chelsea’s concerned look along with Kale’s complaints and questions as to why I left his grasp in the first place.

“Hey, where are you going?” Kale grabbed my arm, looking at me, seeming both annoyed and worried.

“I need to go. Family emergency.” I apologized, going on my toes to give him a kiss on the cheek.

He pulled back a little and rolled his eyes at me, “Suit yourself. I’ll go have fun on my own.”

I bit my lip and watched him disappear through the crowds of people, girls immediately flocking around him. I thought about staying for a split second before shaking my head. I need to take care of my family.

“Bye Chelse!” I called, giving her an apologetic wave as I rushed out of the club and into Phil’s car.

Jake’s POV

“An accident?! What do you mean?!” I shouted at my dad, rushing past him and into the living room, “Is he okay?” I asked as I threw open the front door.

“We don’t know, your sister is bringing the car back so we can go to the hospital.” He gently placed his hand on my shoulder as we went through the hall, Phil right behind us.

I shrugged him off, “Don’t touch me.” I snapped. I can’t handle this right now. Why is all of this happening? Why him? Why my family?! As I stepped onto the sidewalk Miya shot down the street, skidding to a stop inches from me. I threw open the door and got in the backseat, Phil dropping in next to me as dad got in the front next to Miya, looking worried.

I hope he’s okay. Oh, God, I hope he won’t leave me here alone.

I mentally slapped myself for thinking that. How selfish can I be?! Jason’s probably hurt severely or dieing and the only thing I can think of is myself. I dug my nails into my wrist, biting my lip. Why do I have to be so stupid. I released myself and cracked my knuckles. He’ll be okay. He has to be.

Rose’s POV

“J-Jason?” I whispered, sitting by his bed, hand clutched in both of mine.

He stayed silent, though, unmoving and lids closed, soft beeping of several machines filling the room. His chest moved slowly, an oxygen mask strapped over his mouth. Gauze was taped to half of his face and over his head, matching the others on various places on his arms, legs, and chest.

I didn’t have to guess to know what happened. My mother. I bit back tears and kissed Jason’s knuckles. She just can’t leave my life alone. She has to rip it apart piece by piece. We were safe for so long. Seventeen years without hearing anything from her and now she comes in? I took a shaky breath, why can’t she just leave us alone?

“Rose…” I jumped a little and looked at him, a small squeak coming from my lips. “Get… away…” He muttered, blood seeping through the gauze around his mouth. “Take Dan… run…”

“I can’t, Jason…” I whispered, shaking my head, “I can’t leave everyone here, what if she comes for them? She found you, what about everyone else?”

“She’s… not interested… in them… only us…” He groaned a little and I shook my head again, tears spilling over.

“Why? Why can’t she leave us alone?” I let out a sob and rested my forehead against his mattress, feeling utterly useless. I can’t do anything to stop her. She’s too strong. The only thing I can do is sit back and wait for her to ruin everything.
