The Calm

Finally, after the torturous hours and emotionally scarring days of school are over I can finally relax. Years of dealing with the same pretentious and outwardly annoying classmates it was time to relax and unwind in the sun.

Currently, I was packing for a summer long road trip before the start of university in the fall. My friends and I had planned this trip starting our first year of High School and only just managed to get my father to agree this year. He claimed it was his way of "accepting my new found status as an adult", but I know what really happened is mom made him let me go because she knew how much it meant to me.

So, to say I was grateful to her is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad, but because he's the Alpha of our pack and I'm going to take over when he retires, he is really protective over me. But, then again it also might because I'm the only girl my parents were able to produce, and trust me. They have definitely tried. I mean I have 4 younger brother for Christ's sake!

Speaking of those devil's, my youngest brother, Jason shyly knocks on my door as I'm in the middle of shutting yet another suitcase.

"Jas... what's going on? Is everything alright?"

"Lana, I don't want you to go. I'm really gonna miss you! And you promised you'd help me beat the last level on Super Mario! How are you gonna help me if you're so far away!"

See, Jason is my youngest brother and he's only 8. In fact, I'm closest to him than all my other siblings. That may or may not be due to the fact that they're (mostly) all in their teenage years and are just moody as hell.

"Come here Jas, I promised you I'd help and I will. I'm not leaving until Saturday, so I have 4 days to help you with that level, and I'm gonna miss you to buddy... Don't tell anyone, but I'm gonna miss you the most out of everyone else!"

His face lights up at that and he rushes to me to give me the biggest hug his little eight-year-old body can muster.

"Really? Is it because I'm your favorite? Can I tell mom and dad then?"

"No, remember, I said you can't tell anyone it's our secret"

At that I hold my pinky out to him and he wraps his tiny finger around mine and then races out of my room with his bouncing energy.

After Jason leaves my room I go over to pick up my phone and notices I have some texts in the group message I made with my friends about the trip.

Guys, are we sure that we can fit all our bags in Xavier's van.. I have a lot of crap~ Tiffany

Well don't pack so much stiff Tiff, we all need to put our bags back there~ Rocko

We're going to be gone for two months Rock, HOW CAN I NOT PACK ALL MY STUFF!!~ Tiffany

Okay, babe, I'm sorry.. Pack what you need~ Rocko

In case you can't tell those two are dating, in fact they're more than dating, they're mates... which I don't know how that works because Rocko, or as everyone call him Rock, is so soft-spoken and sweet and Tiffany, bless her heart is just load and loader.

Tiff, we don't need to pack a lot, were gonna be on the road so we can just buy what we didn't bring, kay?~ Lana

Ugh Fine, But I'm bringing my straighter and my rollers, those are just too important to leave behind~ Tiffany

No one bothers to answer her because we all expected as much. Xavier, who has been my friend since diapers probably won't even check his phone until the last possible moment. And Irene is probably way to busy sucking faces with her boyfriend to even care that her phone was going off. And then there's me.. who just doesn't care because I know Rocko will eventually get her to calm down. So, I finish putting everything I need in my two bags and go in search of my parents. I wanted to tell them that I was gonna go on a quick run to calm my nerves hopefully by then, dinner will be ready and I can go help Jason with his game.

So, naturally, I go in search for my parents, using my sense to lead me to my dad's study. And because my parents are like horny teenagers I knock loadly on the door and then cover my eyes as I enter. "MOM! DAD! I'M COMING IN! MAKE SURE ALL BODY PARTS ARE COVERED AND WRAPPED AWAY, THANK YOU!" When I do uncover my eyes they're both smiling at me with their creepy parent smile. "I just wanted to tell you both that I'm gonna go for a run around the north perimeter and yes, I finished packing, but I also want food when I get back, please and thank you! You may continue your previous activities." And with that I walk back out the room, out my house and toward the thick forest surrounding our house.
